The contribution of the Premiere RB has diminished significantly. Not to mention the nature of the position's effectiveness is usually tied to spending money on a offensive line to supplement said back. That's even more money for a position that contributes less and less to team each year. The receiving core's effectiveness however involves less, is more crowd pleasing and is the premiere source of offense in today's game. When it was a running league, backs ate good and receivers were underpaid. Now the tables have turned so all the Chris Johnsons in the league need to enjoy those last big money contracts.
:manny:
this is a stupid point, you need oline for passing offense as well, just as badly if not arguably more.

sounds like Toby has a better agent or he's a privileged individual.
How much would you pay a player that has 1 thousand yard season in 5 years and he barely got that and it was against soft Ds cause of his GOAT QB. How's he gonna do with a so/so QB? What is his value?

The main reason is that he has less mileage, but he's shown flashes of talent and he's a vet so he's a known quantity. They're going to run his ass into the ground over the next 3 years.

naw, they not on the same level, dont be fooled by the nfl's trickery....the nfl doesn't want that '3 yards and a cloud of dust' or a run heavy style of play anymore...that isn't 'exciting' enough...the nfl wants afl type play, that's why it's such a passing league and the rules are slanted so heavily toward offense, especially wrs....but you can still tell when teams have a good rb or not...

and like others said earlier: defense and being able to run/stop the run wins ships...if you don't have those 2 things, you aint winning...
exactly...cats forget top 3 nfc teams had run-heavy offense
top 2 nfc teams had 275+ carry workhorses in Lynch and Gore

ships are still won by defense and turnover ratios. having a good rb and good running game that complements such a defense is key because by running the ball you limit the turnovers to minimum and wear down the opposing defense.

sure, RBs age fast, but they didnt go down in importance to overall team...people are just stupid and buy into media hype. nfl front offices know if you have a decent pass game people will have an illusion of your team being good and having a chance when its really not true :manny:

Yall are right with the rule changes and the nfl catering to a more pass heavy league.. But with health concerns and all that, backs hardly get the volume of carries to justify big pay. No back nowadays is just getting 20-25 plus carries consistently, you'll see a bunch of split back fields with guys getting 10+ each sharing them.

very good article on this
http://mmqb.si.com/2014/04/02/nfl-running-backs-devalued-free-agency/

Knowshon Moreno is an excellent pass-blocker—that’s why he unexpectedly kept second-round rookie Montee Ball on the bench this past season and sent Ronnie Hillman to the inactive list. Donald Brown, Maurice Jones-Drew and Rashad Jennings are also fine pass-blockers.
Still, all of these guys signed for relatively small money because what they share beyond sound pass-blocking is a modest running ability that allows them to simply get the yards that are blocked. Most backs can do that. But not a lot of backs can consistently create their own yards. Which is why not a lot of them make big bucks.

you falling for that trickery...the nfl aint concerned about health, if they were they wouldn't be trying to add games to the schedule, add teams to the playoffs, etc...it's all about money...they think a more exciting style of football will bring that in....so, even though there are rbs that could get those carries, that would be a run heavy type offense, and the nfl don't want that....there are plenty of starting rbs that could and should get those amount of touches, but they don't cause of what they want the game changed to...exs: cj, Peterson, lynch (although I think those 2 do get those touches), murray, McCoy, Charles, etc...

To me, we're seeing the running game devalued because teams are emulating Charlie Weis short passing game offense. The Pats (jets prior :wtb: ) have turned the short pass into an extended handoff. Why run the rock when you can pre snap read a mismatch into a two step drop and toss for 3 or 4 yards? shyt is damn near more of a certainty than what a RB can give you.

The RB position will rise again in order for the NFL to continue. All this passing is going to make concussions & violent hits occur too frequently.

Owners will understand this soon enough and heavy run game will then be implemented again to tone down all of the high impact collisions that the passing game brings. Its the next evolution in 'safety' practices. 1st kickoffs, next passing game toned down.

It always comes back to this no matter how many passing records get broken. If you can't run the ball and play defense you're pretty much fukked.
this oh so false.

especially the running part.

Its Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees

All these other QBs are defensible.

when they will retire the passing games will level out.

he has less mileage cause he only played half a season twice, every 1st round pick should at least show flashes in 5 years, nothing special :heh: and he'll be splitting carries with Thomas and Miller. still don't see his undervaluedness :manny:
