He's on the US team, why should people not root for him? I'm talking about the people that are going to be giving him an inordinate amount of the praise and credit if/when they bring home the gold.

Nah, I don't want this team to lose and I don't want the team winning or losing to come down to him. There's really no reason for him to be in that kind of situation given his age and what else this team is working with.
If that somehow happened, I wouldn't be celebrating it, I'd simply be forcing the fickle Kobestans to acknowledge it.

On and Olympic team? Sure, don't hate on anyone. But what you're talking about is taking the fun out of sports. There's something to rivalries and hating the enemy and not wanting them to prosper. I'll never root for Ohio State for example. It'll never get past the point of hating on them. I will always smile when the Celtics lose. It just so happens that the Heat currently have what I want my team to have so they get hate on general principle.
Now if you mean mindless hate? That's another thing entirely, but you already stated earlier this year that reading ONE article made you like LeBron as a person. Liking or disliking someone as a person has nothing to do with hating on them as a player. All this stanning has gone on forever and its part of sports. Only the Bilz's of the word truly hate players as people without knowing them. Everything else is just the territory of sports. If a Jets fan doesn't hate Tom Brady then they're not a Jets fan. That's just what it is. Hating to the point where you can't appreciate someone's game is something else entirely.

This is an interesting and informative post.
I can only speak for myself, but as a Bron stan, I don't hate Kobe at all. The problem is, Kobe stans seem to think anything less than "Kobe is the GOAT" is hating.
I think Jordan and Bron are better than Kobe so any time I'm comparing Bean to one of those guys, my words will reflect that sentiment. But that's not hating.
OKC just lost in the Finals to the Heat. That's a fact, that's not me hating on the Thundercats.
