I dont know if I could pinpoint one specific place or time, but when money became more important that the quality of music, the music got bad fast. Also, when 50 came out bragging about album sales, it turned fans into morons who try to equate album sales with album quality. Can't even argue music anymore without someone bringing up sales numbers.

I voted for when the No Limit movement started... But I amlost forgot how bad that Laffy Taffy/ ringtone rapper era was. They could be both charged equally with the attempted murder of hiphop..

Rap is so weird these dayz..The top American rapper is a guy from Canada.

The top American female rapper is a black girl from the Bronx who trys hard to talk like a white girl from the valley

Now that spot is being taken over by a girl from Australia who trys to sound like a hoodrat from Atlanta..

At this rate an openly gay rapper is going to have a platinum album within 5 years. Mark my word, he's somewhere out there watching this unfold rubbing his hands together like Birdman

Well things are supposed to change breh....Drake has peaked though and I don't see him taking risks to push the sound or culture forward like his surrogate Dad Kanye


I'm fine with how hiphop is... I actually feel spoilt and more appreciative of it now...so many flows and production styles its crazy ... That super masculine thug era gave every cop/cac a reason to justify these recent killings

It was a gradual decline, but the Laffy Taffy/Ringtone-Rap era is when things really hit rock bottom for the genre. Around then my interest in rap faded, I started to look underground for my hip-hop and began exploring other genres.

Hip Hop downfall began when they threw off the pro-black rapper for the corporate thug. When everyone wanted to be like Pac and promoted ignorance times 1000, on top of marketing that image to kids and lost women who grew up without fathers.

I also think Master P kind of introduced a drug dealer 2 for 5 like mentality that kinda cheapened the genre...

Yeah, when people were rushing albums out. ANother thing that harmed the quality of this genre is the excessive amounts of mixtapes that flooded the market from 2002-2013. When some rappers drop more mixtapes than albums,in a short period of time,it makes their fams all on their music and gives them no incentive to buy it anymore.

Now at the end of 2014, there are EDM tracks being played on Hip Hop radio because of a lack of variety.

Well... Mackelmore's Grammy win was proof that Hip Hop has been completely white washed
