The fact that NYC is literally a small island is mind blowing when you consider it’s infrastructure

shyt was top notch maybe back in the 1960’s, but all of it is crumbling fast. The infrastructure is just too damn dated, besides the new skyscrapers and luxury apartments.
NYC in the 60s was shyt...

Not as bad as the 70s but it was going downhill and had 30yr old transit infrastructure by that point.

Central Park is the gold standard and barometer around the world when it comes to urban forest parks

lots of world class cities have tried to built parks that can compare to it.

in NYC, it's just so easy to get from point A to point B
Nah Arboretum is better.

No city in America does parks like Seattle.

And we get more sunshine than cities like Paris :ohlawd:

It’s streets ahead of what I’ve experienced in the US yes.

But it still pales in comparison in infrastructural engineering compared to cities across the world. They’re renewing the trains in the metro which is good, but cities such as London have had new 1 carriage trains for a few years now. The bus network is pretty underwhelming too.

New York isn't small tho. It's the largest island in the country and thats just Staten island. And who cares what Middle America thinks about International cities?
NYC is made up of five boroughs. Four of them are Islands or part of an island. Manhattan and Staten are proper self contained islands. Queens and Bk are on Long Island. The Bronx is the only one attached to the mainland.

I was there in 2019 during the blackout. You could barely see anything in Midtown Manhattan. It looked like a pitch black forest but of skyscrapers instead of trees. I was reminded quick that Manhattan would be the WORST place to be in a crisis.
New Yorkers pull together in a crisis. You were there during the blackout, right? What happened? People chilled. After 9/ll New Yorkers pulled together. Now if you are talking a natural disaster like a flood then yeah, it would suck to be in Manhattan but you can say that about anywhere.
I remember learning that NYC is literally a rock. That's why the infrastructure holds up so well
