See, this is what I'm talking about. This lowered expectation that hip-hop fans have. It's crazy...

Not every album is doing good numbers... and people have to stop accepting that. Before you know it, by the end of 2013, we'll be saying "Hey, he sold 40k first week which is good in this climate." What???

And that no one sells anymore schtick is tired. Rappers just don't sell anymore but from '01-'09, they ran the top of every top sellers list. The mainstream buyers just aren't that excited with rap music anymore. Because quite a few artists are still going platinum this year. Tell rappers to step their game up.

rap is the only genre where it's acceptable to give away your music for free....it's almost a requirement to do if you want to stay hot...

Rappers aint selling like before, cause all of their fans are downloading the shyt illegally.

could you imagine what it would be like if we didn't consume music at the insane rate we do...and actually waited and bought albums instead of getting that download link a week or 2 before and being :manny: ?

Rappers can't "step their game up" when this broken business model exists and is so rampant in the genre.

who do you know that had that bootleg Taylor swift or Adele albums before they came out?

i'll wait:rudy:

when did record sales become such a strong argument amongst fans? we rly living in the information age i guess...its gonna come to a point where people won't buy the album until they read how much the artist sold.....let it marinate

Why are people neglecting the fact that he basically did this independently, I thought it was a mixtape and shyt until a certain legend dropped it on here. I wonder what he would do if he actually did this WITH interscope. It seems like his buzz has grown since Red Album at least in my circle.

I downloaded Adele's album far before it dropped.
I don't think the answer is easy, cause sales are down in all genres. You can look at soul music and point at Adele and at the same time point at Alicia Keys who did half a million with her last album and the same numbers as Wiz this time. You can't look at certain artists and think they represent a whole genre.

We might as well say look at C4, hiphop is doing fine.

Hiphop has so many different types of artists, same goes for rock, r&b too if you compare it to for example country who has 10 big. But one thing is official, the music supply in hiphop is large but the album supply is not that's 1 of the big reasons to why the overall sales of hiphop is declining. Cause cats are finding out that they are making the same bread, with less work by dropping free music. That's why fukkbirds like Kreyshawn and Trinidad James are handed million dollar deals before they even know shyt about them.

people tripping acting like the sales talk is a NEW THING?!? -- people been trippin bout it for years & years, stuntin on the public & eachother.

by now it's actually a OLD thing: it's a mis-gauged & outdated metric of interest from the actual rap game. the rap community AREN'T REALLY BUYING ALBUMS, period, doggie. It is what it is. & yea it IS pretty much a death rattle for the rap game.
but while we ARE STILL HERE DISCUSSING IT we should try to be accurate & not lazily gauge whats actually poppin within the rap community off the album sales.

that said, I havent felt that Game really set the streets on fire with this one anyways. it's a unexpectedly great album, but I dont think its enough that people will talk loud enough to change the public's perception that he's probably fallen off by now. The one song that people HAVE heard from the album, "Celebration," sounds like a generic ass song with 5 billion features, over a old recycled beat. I wouldnta felt like fukkin wit the album either if that was my only experience with it. Album will probably go less noticed than it should.

also, :lolbron: that what he deserves making fun of sales, knowing damn sure he finna fall off one day too. we all fall off one day if we dont die first.

Rap simply isn't a beloved genre of music. its mostly driven by trends which is why very few rappers have longevity. many of these people buying albums aren't really fans of the rapper or rap they're just buying the latest tready album from a rapper who's time will be up almost as quick as it began.

50 Cent sold like 8 million records and his last album went what like Gold?

What you mean Linkin Park sold 10 million their last album what? Gold?

like 2 album have gone platinum this year, in all genres.
Mumford (Folk Music) and Taylor Swift (whatever the fukk they call that, country pop or whatever) then Minaj and Bieber have been certified but not sold and they are pop and hiphop pop or whatever the fukk you chose to call it.

The dopest thing in music this year is that a 5 mic album like Kendrick Lamar could go gold or that 2 years ago Kanye could go platinum like that. That shyt is not happening in any other genre.

What is this fool talking about?
Don't even mention the word logic again, where did my "logic" hint that Eminem won't go multiplatinum?

In fact there was no fukking logic in my post, it was facts disputing another mans logic.
I might have to block you, if you keep on saying stupid shyt.
