no question. if you disagree you honestly have no idea what you are talking about. he did a lot for race, was self deprecating before it was cool, swore (which was unheard of), and despite his recklessness, he was was responsible enough to stop saying the word nikka on stage.

he stood for something and was totally himself. whether or not they admit or realize it, every comedian is influenced by this man. i won't get into the vicarious stuff. there is no question about who the greatest comic of recent history is and anyone that disagrees is doing it solely for the purpose of debate. he may not be your favorite, but he is still the best to ever do it.

Being the guy who was the predecessor doesn't = being the greatest
Rakim was one of the people who revolutionized rap from a lyrical standpoint, does that automatically mean he's the greatest rapper?

Plus Lenny Bruce and Redd Foxx did the self deprecating and vulgar comedy way before Pryor... so where does that leave him?

but Rich did it way colder :banderas:. I'm not taking anything way from the people before him which is why i said i wasn't going to get into the vicarious stuff but :manny:

he WASN'T the predecessor but he did assault his own character in a way that was unheard of. the breh was smoking crack and sucking dikk. he was talking about his felonies and failed marriages. he was a phenomenon. is he dated? *bane voice* of course! but his cadence and message still resonate stronger than anyone else. i defy you to name a single comic that has had more influence for so long. without pryor there would be no murphy, chappelle, lawrence, griffin, etc. the only people that can even be compared to him came before or wrote with/for him. not everyone can channel bruce, foxx, AND cosby.

in short, it leaves him on top. he was a master and it can't be denied.
