Have you ever played RoN? It's very highly regarded and often called the GOAT RTS. I like Starcraft as well, but RoN is magical man. Perfect balance all the way around, too bad the sequel did not do too well.

Very close, but Rise of Nations is indeed the better game IMO. The thing that turned off some people from Rise of Nations is that you are looking at long matches if playing at a high difficulty against the AI or online.
