If you live in LA and in the tv/film industry it actually does mean something if you can say your kid is at USC while you out and about mingling as its the #1 film school in the country. UCLA is more prestigious for people going into medicine and Stanford for engineering.

I didn't know that. I always just figured Stanford or bust. Only thing I really know about USC is their basketball program.

Thought about applying to Stanford in High School....until I saw they wanted multiple essays. Was like NOPE. Same with Cornell and Michigan at the time after the initial applicaiton. Went on a weekend Connect With Tech Visit as a Senior and did my app right in the computer lab in one of the East Campus buildings and was done. NO ESSAY. shyt, I knew right there where I was going if accepted.
