Right, but none of that really answers the questions I posed in response to what that poster laid out. He stated something along the lines of the Clippers getting media adoration due to some conspiracy to dethrone Lebron.....and I’m asking from what? He isn’t defending any titles and he’s arguably not even the best player in the league so what would he be getting dethroned from? Y’all getting caught up in the minutia of dissecting whose better KD or Lebron putting fanboy blinders on, arguing that and missing the overall point. It doesn’t matter if KD is better or not, the point is, it’s a serious debate on either side. But overall, He’s 3-6 in the finals and is STILL by far, like you stated, the most polarizing athlete in the sport. So clearly him winning or losing doesn’t effect the fanfare and media affection that he receives......why the paranoia? It has to be totally subjective from a fans perspective, perceiving someone as a threat to his favorite player. So he’s concocting these conspiracy in his head. It can’t be anything more
This is a lengthy response but didn't take long to come up with because the explanation is right on the surface, so im just breaking it down:
Nah bro it isn’t a fan creation. NBA media is run by people Jordan's age/Jordan's era who have a vested interest in protecting Jordan's legacy...
In the last 5-10 years people have joined NBA media who are in Kobe's age/era who have a vested interest in shoehorning him in a conversation above LeBron...
This has been evident since around the summer Bron won his first title (2012), and honestly probably before then but with the first ring you could no longer say he wasn't a champion; from articles written by a variety of writers in a variety of publications (SI, ESPN, Slam, Forbes, NBA.com, etc), a variety of publications produced on TV by these entities (most recently The Last Dance), the plethora of analysts who have been on these networks talking about All-Timw debates over the years, the legion of FORMER/RETIRED PLAYERS who add their opinions in from interviews, social media, and shows, etc...
After all of this, then you can say its trickled down to the fan opinions but the fans are the last step...
LeBron is the first guy, since Jordan, who threatened Mike's legacy and everybody felt it, and in a league where Mike's supremacy was unquestioned this made alot of people uncomfortable. Undertand I'm not talking about the minutia of whether LeBron is
better than Jordan or not, once it became clear that its a legitimate argument there began this massive formation of pieces and people to pick apart why he isn't, and its all in the interest of protecting Jordan...
The real problem is unlike other sports, NBA Media and Basketball Culture by extension, backed itself into a corner the last 25-30 years by propagandizing one person, Mike, as the greatest there ever was and ever will be, qnd the assertion is so absurd on its face its amazing it took so long to blow up but muhfukkas ran with it anyway...
Dethroning LeBron is about continually looking for measures to invalidate his candidacy as the greatest player of all time, it isnt really about today's players. He's significantly older and more accomplished than all of the modern stars, so those guys are only in the mix because they are active players and it makes for good conversation to find angles to say someone is better rhan LeBron. His Finals record is brought up qd nauseum because of this vecause at no point did anyone mention Finals records before LeBron, with any type of regularity, because
getting to The Finals was NEVER seen as a negative, all that matteres was how much you won---->Wilt was 2-4 and yet here we are almost 50 years after his retirement and most people
still have him in their Top 5, so if losing in The Finals twice as much as winning actually mattered the overall perception and placement of Wilt would be different...
The 3-6 takes only matter to the purpose it can be used to poke holes at LeBron...
Its really a Michael Jordan thing because basketball deified Mike as a messiah who was greater than anything to ever come before him, and anything that could possibly come after him...
