I hated this era man... I remember in 97 is when I started gettin into rap and turthfully I wasnt feelin the videos n some of the music either...

Thank God for DMX and the Ruff Ryders... cause these was the nikkaz that brought the streets back into the mainstream... X success had Jigga and all them other nikkaz goin back to the street denim and the durags and hats.

The Jiggy or shiny suit era got started up around the time Pac and Biggie were killed and it marked the end of Hip Hop's creative peak(87-96). You still had quite a few classics on majors but mainstream Hip Hop for the most part was trash while the underground was striving in the beginning and then, for the most part, became corny like the mainstream.

The Jiggy Era was a confusing time because that's when a lot of rappers started "selling out" and it marked the end of the Grimy era for NY. Honestly, at the time, I didn't like the Jiggy era but looking back it wasn't so bad. Still couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this video though:


I remember the backlash against Mic Geronimo was quick and severe. This video and song pretty much ended his career. Especially coming from something like this:
