Politely and not in a disrespectful manner, Jokic is a turnstile in the pick and roll and is not athletic enough to even be a decent rim protector. His foot speed is similar to prime Dirk, on both ends of the floor. And that’s my problem with the him, Harden, Luka, Nash, Dirk, and any other one way player being compared to guys who excel on both ends of the court.

The thing these players have in common is outsized historic regular season offensive numbers that dwarf their playoff success. The lack of postseason success is directly tied to their poor individual defense. Each of the players named above has to be surrounded by exceptional defensive players that can cover their weakness.

This is different from the Lebrons, the Mikes, the Kobes, the Duncans, who are great offensively but also great defensively which allows them to have success with a variety of supporting player skill types.

He is better defensively than Nash, and offense is ten times more important then defense. It is much easier to mask defensive deficiencies than it is to get a poor offensive player to play well offensively. Offense and defense should not be weighted the same.

Undervaluing defense when Duncan has 5 rings but Jokic only has 1 is a choice, I guess. But there is a reason Denver teams have struggled in the playoffs. People don’t even understand why the e Spurs took the leap this year or why OKC won last year. When you have a non-plus defender, it’s very very difficult to win a championship because that non-plus defender will be exposed. Why you think Luka and Harden ain’t won and ain’t gone win?

On the flip side, when your leader can defend it’s much easier to put a team around. You are able to get more offensive support on the floor to diversify the offense because the superstar leader can cover for the non defender. Why you think a player like Kerr can win a ring with Mike and Duncan or Sasha Vucevic can win a ring with Bean as offensive shooting specialists. A player like Kerr couldn’t be on the floor with Jokic for any meaningful playoff minutes because Denver would get cooked every possession.
