Melo needs to have a come to moment and realize him demanding a max deal from the Knicks is a bad move legacy/basketball wise.

demanding a max deal deal from a team already up shyt's creek luxury tax wise would harm his legacy?

He could play for free and it wouldn't open up the money necessary to lure someone else, and that's assuming that player reaches free agency

I read the article and it's stupid . In the modern nba trading a superstar franchise top player...
But you're not trading a superstar franchise top player. You'd be trading Carmelo Anthony. Outstanding offensive player, iffy defender.
He really said the team wouldn't suffer much without Melo and focusing on chandler :snoop: the main reason we couldn't beat the pacers was chandler not being able to slow down hibbert at all and he has no offensive moves yet he disrespects Melos value by saying the Knicks wouldn't miss much without him .

Chandler ran out of gas after being the sole defensive linchpin for much of the season. He's still one of the best defensive big men in the league and the most important player on the team aside from Melo. And if they kept Chandler and traded Anthony for, oh let's say, Rudy Gay, Jonas Valanciunas, and Terrence Ross I don't think the Knicks would lose much ground with the improved interior defense and more balanced scoring.

It's not a good point the Knicks can wait till 2015 and then sign free agents when they get a bunch of cap space
.

Yeah, I can tell you didn't read the article. He broke down why this won't happen.

So they should look to trade Melo then right?

If by trading Melo you mean blowing it up completely, that's up to Dolan and Knicks' fans tolerance of rebuilding. If you think Dolan and NY couldn't stand rebuilding then, imagine how he'll feel when the Nets run shyt in NYC. He's already losing the war of MSG vs. The Barclays.

the defensive problems

But the larger issue is that the team just has a lot of bad defenders for whom the strong ones — often just Chandler — must compensate. Bargnani is bad, Anthony is a bit less bad, Smith and Felton top out as average (and maybe a tad above-average for Felton on his very best nights), Shumpert is solid but learning, Pablo Prigioni (The Sneak) is cagey but aging and small on the wing, and Amar'e Stoudemire was borderline unplayable last season. Kenyon Martin was very good once the Knicks signed him, but he's almost 36, and Woodson was reluctant to play Martin and Chandler together. It may be that regardless of scheme, the Knicks just have too few average or better defenders to reach the level they must in order to contend.

I'd imagine the Lakers would have to add pieces to that deal, and they have a bunch of expirings on the roster to help make that happen.

I notice no Knicks are talking about the long defensive breakdown in the middle of the article. They're just not good enough on that side of the ball to be a great team.

The biggest issue with the Knicks front office is the Knicks are recession proof. Having the only arena in Manhattan allows Dolan to do things his way or the high way. And his way has obviously yielded horrific results since he's taken over the team.

Melo guarantees a good enough team to make the playoffs annually....but throwing all your eggs into a max deal for a player that's about to hit his 30th bday, isnt smart basketball wise. Who knows what really goes on behind closed doors with this organization. Melo certainly has a lot of pull though.

How is this anti-Melo? I'd be worried about paying Melo $29m at 34 just like any other GM in the league.

He's encouraging the Knicks FO to get creative. I wouldn't get rid of Melo but somehow keeping him under max and somehow reorganizing some of the roster isn't a bad idea.
