How are you mad at a sequel when the story ended on a cliffhanger 
Ellie was "saved" before a potential finding of why she wasn't able to affected by spores.
Exploring how she sees the world now, the potential rift of her realizing Joel lied, who are the new leaders of the fireflys and are they hell bent on finding her, the aftermath of killing David and are some of his people still looking..
It's tons of unresolved questions.
Plus they could be a smaller piece to other characters in this story, they may not even be the main protagonist. This may not even follow the changing season storyline and could be more episodic in narrative.
