I went through on Hard difficulty, and could still appreciate the AI and gameplay, while still feeling like I had the headroom if I wanted to go through Survivor. Still deciding if it' s worth waiting on PS5 for another go or not, but I'm really tryna wait out Grounded also

I started on Modified Hard mode with resources on Light and ally AI on Aggressive. It was pretty much perfect until I tried survivor

He's the first person I've seen not only not praise the gameplay, but be on the whole unimpressed his footage looks like he's playing on an easier difficulty with all the assistance tbf, but he also talked down on the AI which leads me even further to believe he wasn't playing on a higher difficulty. That's a convo I feel like isn't being had enough. It almost seems like the better actual game is hidden not only behind the harder difficulties, but maybe even on the default. I also couldn't find any qualms with the gunplay itself.

The story complaints speak for themselves, but I'm surprised he wasn't feeling the core gameplay

Yes I played on normal at first and found it pretty easy then switched to hard and it was still easy. MGS vets know what true stealth is

Dawg after I finished I had to go ahead and cop TPP on the Steam sale. Gotta get an updated comparison after the years have passed, because that’s been my landmark

The subtle differences are what really have me close to going ahead and starting over on Survivor. Plus I wanna try really going savage mode with Abby. I still played her stealth and damn near ignored that momentum skill tree until I ran out of other options I really didn’t let loose until I was Ellie against the Rattlers

I don’t even mind seeing the story beats again, reframed with my endgame knowledge.

My biggest red flag with playing with the game structure, is the reviews mentioning without the hidden loading screens ND is so great at, those load times are rough getting in and out of the game

You realize a lot of this reviews hit right as the game released and was bombarded by idiots giving it a 0 who didn’t even play the game and based it on some out of context leaks, right? If people actually played the game and didn’t like the story, that’s fine, but those metacritic scores are not that. There’s plenty of highly regarding games I just couldn’t get into. But this agenda of giving the game horrible ratings because you read about something you didn’t like (who the hell reads spoilers anyway) that’s just ridiculous.

Fantastic presentation
Phenomenal gameplay
I liked the story too.
Only docking a point because the ending dragged on way too long IMO. For me personally I could have done without the Santa Barbara piece.

I don't have a problem with the story except Ellie going after Abby again when she already established a family life on the farm. That part felt tacked on.

Btw, Joel deserved it
