Only true for the Northeast. The South runs Hip Hop and the majority of Southern hip hop artists are Black. Latino Trap is irrelevant outside of Latin communities.

The fall of nyc hip hop in reality started in the late 90s not early 2000s.

All but two times in NYC rap history has the top rapper been all about the lyrical content (Nas & Rakim).
I remember when Puerto Ricans got mad when crunk got popular back in 03, and they couldn't vibe to it. It got even worse over time when trap artists from down south started to use big booty strippers that are black and PRs couldn't relate to down south lifestyle of the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi. They were stuck in the traditional gritty NY lifestyle and couldn't fathom going anywhere south of Philly where places are wide open and even club life is different.
Like this one time, I told some Rican and Dominican people that I lived in DC and visited VA and NC occasionally. They were like

because they were literally scared of even thinking of visiting there. But how they taken over NY rap is because c00ns wanted access to non black p*ssy. I remembered the late 90s and early 00s where people like Ma$e, Puffy, Hov, and others were obsessed with non-black women and were blinded by access to them.
This is why I like west coast rap for still keeping their g-funk/hyphy style.
But Fif did a MASSIVE disservice for upcoming NY rappers, both new ones and vets alike. Has SP the Ghost almost shelved his album, had Saigon running through ropes so that his records can never blow, had people saying that Nas was washed up
And even started beef with Cam and Dipset. At the same time when the south was strong arming the radio with strip club anthems and one hit wonders with feminine dances, Fif stopped any chance for NY unity until 2009 when the south forever changed the DNA of rap.
