Eh, I kinda get what Dave is saying. It doesn't have to be about wearing a suit or shyt like that. Swerve looks like a superstar way more than Ospreay and he has the same amount of freedom as bruv, he just has way more style and knows how to be perceived as a big deal, something that Ospreay probably doesn't care but wouldn't hurt if he did :manny:

I mean.... Bryan Danielson dressed like shyt his whole career, I think when your gimmick is "I'm a wrestler wrestler" it don't really mean much what you wearing.

Sure, if they were looking to land a Hollywood role or something, that shyt ain't happening lol

Man got worked into a shoot by Ricochet and people think Trevor ain't heel of the year :mjlol:

It's pretty dumb of Young OG to go at Tony Khan for no reason. What if OG is in the next round of cuts? You wanna keep your options open. Young man burning bridges over a tweet :pachaha:

I think we all agree that Danielson's thing was being incredibly popular despite of his own efforts to tank his perception as a big deal :bryan: he's on that Mick Foley "every day man" category and that's not really "superstar" status.

I'm just saying I understand Dave's point. Right now, Ospreay is incredibly popular but I don't think he's perceived as a superstar wrestler. Like I said, I feel like Swerve presents himself as a bigger deal than bruv and that's all about "looking that part".

Does Ospreay really need to do that? That's where I disagree with Meltzer. I don't think he or AEW needs that from him. But I'm not gonna act like if Ospreay cared like Swerve, he'll probably be an even bigger deal in the biz than what he is now.

I also firmly believe that when you have guys that are as popular as Ospreay (or Danielson), it's on the promotion to finds ways to promote them to the moon and find the best way to make them feel like superstars. Instead of the wrestlers having to fit in a preconceived way of how to look.

Would it be easier if guys like those two would try to make an effort? Of course, and that's where I agree with the "he could care more about this stuff" argument. But let's not act like wrestling promotions aren't just as lazy and almost never try to make an effort themselves trying to find ways to adapt to the wrestler that already did the more difficult job (getting incredibly over with crowd).

The thing about that is wrestling companies have never paid for wrestler's gear. Ospreay said plenty of times he's a frugal guy and likes to live a pretty simple life. He has the money to upgrade his look or gear but I just don't see him doing it.

Then there's someone like Mercedes who always has new gear and spends thousands on robes and other accessories.

I think as long as the gimmick fits the appearance it's fine. Ospreay is a wrestler's wrestler. His whole deal is wrestling. Mercedes is about wrestling but her gimmick is also "I'm a rich chick" so she's gonna come out wearing the best and having new shyt every week.

I can't think of what Ospreay should really change..

That's why I'm saying it's on the wrestling company to find a way to promote that in a better way. If the wrestler doesn't give a fukk about his look, then it's on you to make an effort to promote him/her. The wrestler already did the heavy lifting by getting popular, if he doesn't care about presentation, then you come up with a presentation for him to make money off his popularity.

Taker always dressed like a biker bum but Vince found a way to promote him that elevated him despite Taker not giving a flying fukk about outside of the ring image. WWE found a way to take advantage of the fact Taker cared about kayfabe and could work around him so he could be presented as a big deal all the time.

AEW: where looking like a pro wrestler is seen as a detriment :snoop:
It’s not tho lol people just get defensive about it but the wrestlers who have stood out the most and became the biggest stars over there all have definitive looks and presentations whether it be Swerve walkin around with grills and chinchilla’s, MJF and his Burberry aesthetic, Darby and his grunge look etc. presentation still means a lot in wrestling and the way you present when you’re just out there cutting a promo is just as important as your presentation when you’re wrestling

But for every one of the guys I mentioned, you have random nikkas in white tees and hokas looking like the most uninteresting people ever
