People forget DMX was the most popular of all time at the peak of his career. Dude was bigger than Jigga in his prime. X starred in movies, released two multi platinum albums in one year, and had his own label that was successful. X did it for the streets too, he cried on stage, he prayed on stage, never compromised who he was and he never abandoned his core audience for mainstream fame. X was so real millions of people were drawn to him. WTF happened to that man? He's rich forever, but why isn't he celebrated as he should be. Breh is arguably the GOAT and his accomplishments get ignored.
I'll tell you what happened. People like Jay Z plan to stay relevant and people like X don't care about relevancy. X made music to save lives. Jay makes music to stay relevant.
In life one can be X, righteous and for the people, or they can be Jay, ambitious and selfish. At the end of their lives which one would you rather be?
I'm picking Jay every time. That says a lot. X might be GOAT but more people would argue that Jay is a better rapper and had a bigger impact because Jay played the popular music game and kept his name relevant. Being relevant is more important than one's actual impact when longevity of one's legacy is concerned.
People forgot all about X but everybody knows about Jay. Jay doesn't care about people and X is willing to die for strangers.
