^^ GAWD I love the internet.

Being successful is such a broad goal. I think once you start defining what you feel success will be and set some specific goals, you won't feel as "lost".Is there such a thing as too much freedom? We seem to fall into where we are currently due to pressing needs such as money or w/e. I still don't have a true goal in life aside from being successful.

Like for me instead of saying I want money, I will say I want to have 1 years worth of living expenses saved, x amount going to investing every money, x amount going to college funds, x amount of real estate, etc. Drilling down like that makes shyt seem impossible but it puts an actual dollar figure for each goal and that's better than some arbitrary amount.
. I've seriously never thought of if that way. I've literally always just saved money without a thought of what I'm saving for. I think I've been listening to my dad too much when it comes to this. All I've been saving for is a house or either college and I'll admit I'm scared to go to college because I don't wanna go and constantly switch majors and waste money.. If you're unsure of a major, go to a community college and get your Gen Eds first. Those classes are pretty standard across every major and you'll save tons of money. Community colleges typically offer more flexibility in class scheduling so that can help if you're working and going to school. If you're still undecided after 2 years, go with Business. It's pretty neutral, can cover a broad range of career areas and the coursework is pretty straightforward. If there is an area you like and it's not really profitable in the job market, minor in it.
Are you saving to buy a house in cash or just for the down payment? If just the downpayment, then save 20% of whatever the cost of the house you're looking at and no more. Start another savings goal after that. Saving without a goal can be soooo boring! You know you're supposed to do but after a while you're like "for what?"
I personally think it's better to have a paid for house, especially if you're moving. I was telling my nephew if he bought a house buy one that's two units and live in one and rent out the other. Or rent out the upstairs and make the basement an apartment. If you move, you can have a property management company manage it for you. Thanks for the college advice, I'm getting close to that point where I can quit my current job and go but the thought of not making the right decision had me at a standstill.
I was saving to buy a house in cash but I'm hearing that can be bad if you plan on moving sometime in the future. I'm not too big on moving but I can't stand MI. So lately I've been thinking of just putting a down payment, I also figured I needed the credit since I don't have any cards.
That's how I've been feeling lately as I've been getting closer to making that decision, it's just been like "Why am I saving? I know it's good to save but what for?"
