Very nice. I remember when I first got it through a friend before it was retail. That's all we played that weekend in LA.

Yeah? I remember my cousin had the album 1st and he had just got a new car. He was like, "y'all gotta hear this white boy spitting. This shyt is crazy!" :damn:

other than Remember Me I would never listen to anything off this album ever again.....wretched piece of "music"......17 years later I give him props for being this bold with the subject matter tho..........I wonder if anyone will ever vent their frustrations like this on an album ever again

to each their own my dude, I just feel like em has all the talent in the world can spit with the best of them and destroy some of the best. But he chose to spend half his career making songs like the real slim shady, without me, my name is.

I wouldn't say half, even 1/3 would be pushing it...those were the lead singles which were made with the intent of doing what the label asked of him. Looking at the video for "The Way I Am" you see him basically having what looks like a meeting with "suits" complaining about shyt until he finally just jumps out the window.

He wanted it to be the first single but was asked to re-create My Name Is which he himself thought was corny/goofy. You would think being a big artist like that would give you more freedom to do XYZ but no...especially in that era.

I'll tell you what he did spend half his career doing...complaining about and trolling the industry/the label.

It's why the next album he dropped after MMLP was kind of named after "The Truman Show" because the whole rigamarole with MMLP showed him exactly what was up...he was being used. If you've ever seen the movie, the main character realizes that his life is a lie, even his daily interactions with people are scripted. He becomes self aware and begins to troll the producers and the audience.

You don't hear a lot of that shyt on MMLP because he hadn't really become aware of what was going on yet.

It's about the industry and lead singles. It's like we can make an underground album but will it sell? There is a marketing plan and Em whom I just spoke with hip hop is life. Too many haters out there man who hate just to hate but don't realize that there are reasons for certain things. That's how we all get paid.

Fa sho, ain't like he could walk into a room with Dre and Jimmy and be like "nah, I'm not doing that"

I don't even think Em owns his stage name...he got asked to ride the fence between being a cash cow and still being an MC. I think he did a good job of letting everybody know what the deal is, I'm playing the game but I really don't care about the industry bullshyt...all I want to do is rap.

Yeah it's a time capsule, like I said not even my favorite Em album to listen to, but the impact and the level of spitting that took place is undeniable.

I hated the real slim shady even though he was still spitting...Without Me is a whole nother beast, that's where you really start seeing the self awareness start to surface and see him start taking little jabs in his music at his situation. That is the best one out of all the goofy, obligatory singles.
