I thought he was one helluva lyricist.

That was my first impression.Thought he was gifted at flipping words.

A real technician.

But I thought the same thing when I first heard The Slim Shady LP.

Won't front, I dismissed him strictly because he was white.

Plus I was going through one of the worst periods in my life at that time.

I was a lil broke dusty nicca.

But yeah.....The first time I really gave my ear to Em, I was about to go on this long bus ride

and my cousin was kind enough to offer me his CD Walkman. It was totally spur of the moment on his part.

Dreading the thought of a long, boring bus ride...I accepted his offer.

I dap him up and head to the bus stop.

Open the CD Walkman and saw this

Thought to myself "My cousin's a fukking cornball:beli:"

Once I got about 15 mins into my bus ride, I said fukk it "Let me check this shyt out"

Ended up playing this shyt like 10x in a row

Got to this

and was thinking"I'm actually feeling this white dude:merchant:"

And then this shyt

had me:whoo:

Had to respect the dude:ehh:

Em had a lot relatable every man day shyt on his first album. Didn't matter what color you were, poor is poor. You can feel the stress of trying to make it and change your circumstances.

Prophetic

People say they wish he would have stayed with this style but then he woulda been random Rawkus rapper #5.

I think this is the one Em album where he dropped an unquestionable classic. His rhymes had the most bite on this even if The Eminem Show and Relapse were better technically. Some people argue his references were dated, but I would argue that was timely especially taking into account the issues of the day.

Role Model was the cut! I had this on tape (don't remember why). Anyway, when dude said, "How the fukk can I be white, I don't even exist." I damn near :deadmanny: One of the illest lines of '99. Guilty Conscience was my other repeat listen.

Em got some good tracks, and he definitely has some talent. But even back then I was never :damn: over any of his albums, no one around me except for White kids were :damn: over his albums... so the top 5 shoehorned convo doesn't make any sense to me. Especially now that his discog has aged like milk. Dude is a slightly better Pharoahe Monch :yeshrug:
