If you check out the article I shared, Cuban assumed they were still going to keep him in charge since the new ownership doesn't know anything about basketball and Cuban retained a large minority stake.
I know, and Cuban himself expressed this himself initially when he sold but it’s clearly not how it turned out. If it was that easy for Nico to kick him out of having GM duties, then that assumption Mark had wasn’t as ironclad as he thought.

Contractually under NBA bylaws I don’t think it’s allowed for the majority owner to give a minority owner the power Cuban claimed he had.

lol it’s honestly astounding seeing some of you do the mental gymnastics to try and defend Nico or make this a racial thing.

The guy didn’t even shop for the best offer. While making the most braindead trade we’ve ever seen.

Even if it was demonic cac ownership that said “hey, we don’t want to give tubby euro 350mil, trade him,” it was Nico Harrison who decided to forego getting a boatload of draft capital in order to get brokeback Anthony Davis and a single draft pick.

Even if it was demonic cac ownership that said “hey, let’s tank the team and city relationship so we can relocate,” it was Nico Harrison who set the franchise up to have poverty draft capital.

There is no defense on Nico...but he answers to somebody. He cant do shyt without their ok. Ignorance is not an excuse. Let somebody move drugs and guns out your crib and try telling the police you aint know it was illegal or they talked you into it and see how that goes. :pachaha:

Nonbasketball investors trusted the basketball guy to steer them in the right direction

Basketball guy mislead them

Both parties are at fault

But only one of them swindled and mislead. The other party was simply oblivious and went along with the idiot’s suggestion.

And only one was in control. Only one had billions invested and on the line. The level of bail people will shoot a rich white man knows no bounds.

But context matters. In their 1st year of ownership, Nico made key trades at the deadline that helped guide the Mavs to the finals. It doesn't even appear that the new owners watched basketball at all before buying the team. The article I shared explained how they were impressed with Nico off the rip and trusted his decision making because of the Mavs finals run. The trust the new ownership put into Nico lowkey undermines the racial argument since they initially chose him over Mark Cuban. I do agree that there's racism in sports overall, but its hard to use that in this case.

This article from April also details how Nico alienated Dirk and Luka by firing the long time Mavs health and performance director during the week he went home to be by the side of his mother on her death bed. Nico brought in a breh who played in the NFL and lacked the proper certifications and clearing injured players too early.

The racial argument is the rich white folks bring treated like innocent helpless children while Nico (who definitely fukked up and was on some bullshyt) is the machavellian mastermind villian that is responsible for everything.

Imagine a NBA player had a wide open layup to win a game. Instead of dribbling he listens to a teammate and takes 6 steps to the basket and gets called for traveling and they lose the game. We gonna accept "I didnt know you couldnt do that" or "he told me to"? Hell no. But thats exactly what folks are accepting from Dumont and nem. That doesn't fly in any other context for any one else. Thats the racial argument.

I think what you’re saying would be applied to any ownership group tho regardless. If Aliko Dangote owned the Mavs everyone would still be blaming Nico just as much.

I already said its applied across the board for sports owners and its bullshyt. If you got final say and billions on the line aint no excuses or fingers to point.
