That's scary. Looking over on the highway and knowing the truck is driving itself :merchant:
You're scared about self driving trucks. I'm scared about drivers who KNOW they can't drive at night, or when it rains, but still get on the road.

Automation in 25 years will wipe out 90% of the jobs and make the majority of people collect basic income checks to uphold what's left of capitalism.

Basic income is gonna be :ahh: and make people less stressed out due to a guaranteed check coming every month.

Don't see there ever being a basic income in the usa... not with the racial history or class history of this country.

It needs supervision now because of the law. These driverless vehicles have millions of accident free miles on the road :wow:
Driverless trucks or vehicles? Trucks are a whole different beast. :francis:

Driverless trucks or vehicles? :francis:

Both. All they're doing now is collecting data and refining their software and getting ready for the shift. This is the future breh. Google is working with ford on a self driving car, businesses are lobbying congress and local politicians to get the laws changed, Tesla already has self driving capabilities built into the Model S and Uber is working on self driving vehicles too.

They're even working on self flying planes.

It's not gonna happen overnight, but eventually these cars, trucks, and planes will be the norm the same way cell phones replaced land lines.

It will take awhile cuz thats a lot of money for companies to just up and buy new trucks and my boy who is a truck driver talks about their cheap ways. The ethics laws where you dont need any drivers wont pass for a long while because of safety concerns and paranoia. Last but not least those truckers who encompass men of all races wont go down without a fight and we've seen how that has delayed laws for years. They would def support ethics laws to make them become an "operator." for "safety" reasons when you bring up varying conditions and possible accidents.

Back in the day people thought we would be like the Jetsons and all of us would be driving hybrids yet here we still are.

I'm not saying it's going to happen tomorrow. It'll probably take 20 years or so, but some states have already approved driverless cars:

Automated Driving: Legislative and Regulatory Action - CyberWiki

And those truckers ain't gonna do shyt breh. You think Walmart, Target, or any of these multi national billion dollar companies give a fukk about truck drivers? They're already sending jobs overseas because it's cheaper, what makes you think they won't replace your job with a computer when it's cheaper :usure:

Look at Amazon, even they're trying to throw UPS in the bushes by replacing them with drones.

We are talking about driverless trucks. Lets not mix up the two.

You cant simply send these jobs overseas though. It doesnt matter if they give a fukk about truckers. The truckers can get into voting and lobbying too. There is no going around ethics and safety bro.

Many have tried.

:heh: @ lobbying. Breh why do you think these laws are changing to allow driverless cars? Right now these companies are lobbying to politicians and spending millions in the process. They're not spending billions of dollars in research to now have these things on the road breh.

Like I said, nikkas better get they're orders in affair. If you're a truck driver you better not think they won't replace your ass.

Those are all about cars. When we get into trucks its a whole different ballgame safety wise. :upsetfavre:

nikkas? Truck drivers are comprised of white people too and many being the older ones with connections. If you think they wont do anything then you are gonna be in for a big surprise. :dead:

White people have no issue with fukking over white people...

and the older truck drivers might have money.. but not like the ones who are lobbying for self-driving vehicles.

Did you not see all of those states that had truckers as the most common job?

They have numbers. :sas2:

Not really. I drive an hour to work everyday and travel a lot to see my hoes and the demand for truck drivers is soooooo high and I can't go two miles without seeing a truck driver help wanted sign.

I mean these trucks will take a few jobs but most companies won't want to pay for them. They'll just lower the truck driver wages maybe to keep their profit up.

You forget one thing. Depreciation and life cycle. If I'm a big trucking company, I'm looking to sell my trucks and get new ones after 400 to 600 thousand miles. I drove between 120-150,000 miles a year when I was over the road, which means that the big companies are buying an entirely new truck fleet every three to five years. Once the tech and laws get put into place, it's nothing to just change your next giant purchase to be automated trucks instead of manual ones. Also, unlike a car where adding a $5000 system puts it into a whole different category, the added costs of automation aren't that great when you're talking about buying a $120,000 vehicle. Then you can cut the 30,000 a year you pay the driver, dispatch cost, health insurance costs, and a automated truck won't have to conform to federal hours of service rules so you can run it 22 hours a day.

It will take awhile cuz thats a lot of money for companies to just up and buy new trucks and my boy who is a truck driver talks about their cheap ways. We're not nearly strong enough as a group to stop those laws. The only stuff that was temporarily stopped were the NAFTA rules, and that action wasn't opposed by companies like Walmart who don't really care because most of their fleet is doing local work between the warehouse and the stores. Every single grocery store and big box chain that runs their own fleet will push for automated trucking because it's much cheaper than hiring humans.

This is way bigger than that. This is loss of jobs among groups composed of white, black and mexican who will put up a fight with a good angle safety wise.

I dont think you grasp how large this group of truckers and their families are. :francis:

Did the job for 10 years, I think I've got some kind of idea how many of us are out there and our political strength (or lack thereof). And the safety angle is going to be a complete backfire. Just look at Tracy Morgan for what happens under the current system.

Since the manufacturers are going to be liable, they're not going to release the product until it's ready. That's why I don't think you'll be seeing this in the next 5-10 years except as a "driver assist" system. But once it's proven to work it'll be adopted very quickly.
