Did the job for 10 years, I think I've got some kind of idea how many of us are out there and our political strength (or lack thereof). And the safety angle is going to be a complete backfire. Just look at Tracy Morgan for what happens under the current system.

Since the manufacturers are going to be liable, they're not going to release the product until it's ready. That's why I don't think you'll be seeing this in the next 5-10 years except as a "driver assist" system. But once it's proven to work it'll be adopted very quickly.
Tracy is one man. Truckers united is something else. You say lack thereof but when your job is on the line youd be surprised what people will do.

My saying is that it will be driver assist at most for a long time.

You wont see this driverless truck being a mainstream thing for 20 to 30 years at most because having a human on board lessens the risk.

I wouldn't be surprised. I expect wildcat strikes, freeway blocks and the rest. I also expect a president to break any trucker strike the same way that Reagan broke the air traffic controllers strike. Plus, It's hard to strike when you work in a "Right to Fire" state, and employers can dump you at the first opportunity they get.

I agree on the driver assist, and most of the time frame. If I had to bet on it I'd say 12 to legalization, 16-18 years to automated trucks being dominant. But I don't think that's because of any power by truckers, just the technological difficulties and getting the laws passed in every state and canadian province while we're all looking the other way at whatever mass shooting or sports event is hot that day.

Did you not see all of those states that had truckers as the most common job?

They have numbers. :sas2:

You talking about population numbers?

If so..... So what? That don't mean anything to the people who are pushin this stuff through :manny:

Those are all about cars. When we get into trucks its a whole different ballgame safety wise. :upsetfavre:

nikkas? Truck drivers are comprised of white people too and many being the older ones with connections. If you think they wont do anything then you are gonna be in for a big surprise. :dead:

Breh, the technology used for self driving trucks is the same as the technology for self driving cars. Im not sure why you think these companies would invest billions in this technology and not use it. Right now they are testing self driving trucks on the roads, and they're not wasting millions of dollars on this technology testing something they have no desire to make money off of.

This isn't anything new breh. Technology has always replaced workers and eventually truck drivers will be obsolete.

Trucks have more safety regulations than cars especially if it's Hazmat or Tanker when it comes to the general public.

So truckers can unite and push using that angle

None of what you say hasnt addressed the safety of the trucks lol.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
:mjpls:

That's misleading as hell.

1. There are ALWAYS openings for people with CDL's. Why is that? :usure:. Because companies have a hard time filling those positions.
2. How many people have CDL's but don't use them for actual truck driving?

Owner/Operators constantly complain about per mile rates. You not gonna make a decent living unless you're on the road all the time.

People gravitate towards a CDL because its not that hard to get and it's inexpensive relative to other certs.

Chart is bullshyt.. but the thing to take away is how many uneducated people there are in this country and why the top 1% own the majority of the nations wealth. You don't need an educated or an IQ to be a truck driver. Then you have farmers and secretaries :mindblown:

No engineers. very few little techs.... NO manufacturing :mjpls:

The data seems to be distorted by the authors. Truck driving requires a special license and schooling. The mere fact makes it impossible, at a first glance, to be the most common
Not all delivery drivers, you have even more drivers that are driving delivery vans and box trucks tasty don't require any special schooling or licenses to drive. It's guys like that, that are moving freight locally out of ports like JFK and LAX

America done fukked up by forcing people to be geniuses just to get a damn paycheck :martin:

Being an engineer while paying them a lower wage than a garbage man? Without union benefits? Clearly exploit the skilled workers.
