Black Thought...the Super Lyricist your archnemisis.

Back in '93 this cat exploded on the scene as part of the ONLY rap act...let alone group that had live instrumentation throughout their album...

In '94 Thought came through with a Classic Album featuring this lead single.

What most people know of the Roots is the Third Album "Illadelph Halflife."..a solid Gritty joint

They followed this up with another banger...."Things Fall Apart"...and for those that didn't know

This is Beanie's first Studio joint. The Roots actually discovered him...not Jay

Eve...aka Eve of Destruction was also on this Album on "You Got Me" which incidentally was originally sung by Jill Scott

We aint even left the damn 90's yet and I'm already posting nothing but heat

I forgot to mention that during this time...Black Thought became one of the best live performers...up there with the KRS-One's in terms of stage and mic presence.

Oh...and he does a dead on Kane and G rap impression.

The Mid/late 90's brought some minor beefs with Biggie and Nas but nothing big (pun intended) ever materialized...

Continuing to crush the scene in the 2000 era "Phrenology" dropped and Thought didn't miss a step. In fact, he continued to evolve. Malik B stopped being an active member of the crew so in essence Thought was the primary emcee.

Many called their next album the most commercial "The Tipping Point"...personally I disagree but whatever. Songs like Web, Boom and others blessed this solid album.

For the next decade, Thought has been featured on many joints and releases an album at least every two years. In between touring and serving as an emcee on the Jimmy Fallon show.

:whoo:

Once again, The Roots were on the front line discovering talent....Wale made his first debut on "Rising Up'....oh and this song is hot

He's worked with your Meek Mill to your Ab-soul and ALWAYS torches the Mic.

and here Thought is....over 20 years later dropping one of the hottest verses of 2013

Please tell me there is an emcee alive that can boast and prove the level of high quality consistency as a studio AND live emcee over the last 20 years.

:blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed:

I'll wait.

Are you sure about that?

Stetasonic used live instrurments to some extent back in the 80's but the Roots were the first to use it so heavily.

But BIGGER than that, this isn't a thread to talk about production as much as Black Thought being the most consistent quality rapper ever.

I have to admit a HUGE gap in my hip-hop culture...I've never listened to an entire Roots album :snoop:

I don't even know why, I've liked basically every song I've heard...for some reason never happened:yeshrug:

His verse on Bird's Eye View is insane tho :wow:

I agree. He's been able to maintain a nice balance between underground and mainstream and attacks every verse with the same intensity. Sure many of them blend together, but seriously, he has no weak ones. He's never done some dumb lazy throwaway shyt as far as I know

Though not a group Too $hort used a lot of Live Instrumentation as well. Who is the better MC is not a question but I do enjoy Short Gawd's music a lot more.

But to answer the OP the only answer is Nasty :ahh:

Black thought is an absolute beast no doubt. The only one you can even consider to put next to him for consistency for so long is Nas.
