I'm always worried about vitamins and stuff I don't get but I don't want to be taking 80 pills a day. I also want to know what vitamins you can't readily get from a good diet (i.e., you can easily get 300% of vitamin A but not so much of zinc).

I'm reading that multi's aren't that effective and can be detrimental.

So far I'm on fish oil because I don't eat fish (sides tuna twice a week) and b-12 for energy I lack (and not really all that effective)

You absorb very little of a pill firm multi...say 5-20%...

Now the argument is made that even a low percentage is better than nothing because that would be 50%-200%, but that would include vitamins you already get a massive amount of anyways like vitamin A, C etc, which then would equal to an unhealthy amount at that point

The ideal multi would have uncommon vitamins like zinc or something

If you want to get a multi that you can really absorb, the liquid version has a 98% absorption rate..but then the argument for pills intensifies that much more

My view anyways

zinc (try not to take with calcium)
vit d
something with fiber

:cook:

multis are a good base, but i've heard that sometimes the vitamins/minerals actually work against each other.
ex. zinc and calcium

Fish Oil

Eat colors (red, green, etc) in addition to lean meat.

Most supplements are overrated and don't work beyond the placebo effct. The ones that work (ephedra, steroids, etc) are illegal or prescription because dumb-assess abuse them and blame the drug.

Multis are good but shouldn't be your main source of vitamins (fruit & veggies), you have to make sure the multi has a good quality source of b vitamins. Some companies use cheap or low quality sources which is why they have even lower absorption rates.

Fish oil is a must

Protein but you can get a majority of that from food sources

protein and a good multi are all that are really needed....anything else is just an unneeded luxury, i use creatine, CLA, and BCAA's but those arent necessary.

Only supplements with mad research behind them are:
- Caffeine
- Creatine

Also, since it's just a macronutrient and doesn't need research:
- Protein

Anything else is not really starter status, not worth your time/money, or simply doesn't really work.
