More than money, the issue is platform (which is directly related to the money, so yeah, that too).
This story about Morey went semi-viral, reached a couple second-tier sports personas, and got me on Houston sports radio. Which is pretty fukking remarkable, given how grass roots The Cauldron's promotion is right now. But still, it has netted only like 17,000 views in 4 days, and of those 17,000 views only 37% read the entire thing. Your message, thoughtfulness, and insight means very little without a platform. Rick Reilly can write one of his standard, lazy, knock-knock joke columns tomorrow and get 17,000 views in an eye-blink.
Which is why the writer from grantland was kind of wack for responding to my critique without citing the actual story I wrote. If he referenced it, the hits/attention it got would've quadrupled. I suspect he knew as much and was on some Rick James fukk yo' couch shyt - you ain't gonna shyt on my column and get shine off me, breh breh.
