You a moron if you comparing Kobe to Nash or Pierce. As Stephen A Smith says, Kobe is box office. Those guys ain't. There are millions of people who watch basketball and follow the Lakers simply because of Kobe. You can't compare him to normal players. The guy is up there with Jordan and Magic as the most popular player of all-time.

We're not just talking about drawing interest from a fukkin city. We're talking drawing interest from fans ALL AROUND THE WORLD. Just look at the Lakers now minus Kobe. They are getting pulled off national TV. You think that even if our record was the same but Kobe was playing, the Lakers would be getting knocked outta national TV?
My point is Nash was a huge draw in Phoenix. He was the reason they were even getting televised games in the first place and they were willing to get rid of him to start the rebuilding process. That says a lot. No team that's serious about winning is taking on Kobe's contract. Doesn't matter how popular he is.

Ask Pacer fans if they would want Kobe's contract. Lets see what they have to say.

No. Its way lower than that. The Suns were willing to get rid of Nash who was a Gawd in Arizona and a huge draw. Celtics were willing to get rid of Pierce who was a Gawd in Boston and also a huge draw. Teams that are building for the future and are serious about winning aren't taking on a contract like Kobe's. Period.

LOL compare Nash and Pierce to Kobe brehs. Go back and look at how much revenue each of those guys bring in. Funny that taking on Kobe would ensure an easy way to accumulate young talent via tanking and lottery picks. There are only 5 teams, being generous, that are "serious" about winning or realistic in their expectation.

Kobe Bryant is arguably still the most popular basketball player in the world. That alone is incredible considering his age and the fact the NBA has been promoting the heck outta LeBron and now Durant.
Yeah but he's a shell of his former self. There's still a lot of delusional fools like yourself that think he's gonna miraculously return to old Kobe. Once reality sets in, that popularity and draw is likely gonna plummet. Plus when he doesnt play he's no good to anyone, as we've seen how ticket sales have dropped this season with his injuries. So if he continues to struggle with these injuries and misses a ton of games over his last two years, you wont even be able to really use the money generation argument.

You're right. Just look at recent history. Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady Allen Iverson, Shaq and Garnett were hugely popular players, but at the tail end of their careers they were nowhere as popular and weren't considered draws anymore. Father time is undefeated.

Lin should not be on here...I'd bet all my coli cash the rockets have made his salary back and then some on his merchandise sales. The rockets have a HUGE Asian market that is starving for an NBA player...

Only two of those are comparable and they were big draws still relative to their how fast they decreased.

Kobe will return next year to his usual 27-5-5.
