I got revisit it as I was a lot younger when I heard it and my music ear is more diverse now. I was quite disappointed when it came out though so I gotta agree with OP

BOBS is one of the great hip hop albums ever. I Get its hard to follow up

High-key my favorite Mos album. But the fact that not only was it not a "classic" rap but ALSO his 2nd album meant it was basically sure to have at best a mixed reception. Anything else than BOBS2 was probably gonna be deemed a disappointment.

its not an album that stood the test of time to most people or people go back to. in reality it was a bit dissapointing

when i first heard it at its release i didnt enjoy it

years passed and i got deep in to all kinds of jazz and live instrumentation.

listened to the album randomly after some years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to grow into it

Basically had the same experience. Received it as a gift and didn’t appreciate it much.

Now that I’m older I appreciate it so much more. I don’t play it as much as bobs and the ecstatic though

i saw mos do a couple songs from this in dallas a couple yrs ago.... went harder than a mug

I think for someone who was expecting something in the style of Blackstar or BOBS, or most of his work in that period, it makes sense that it would be a dissapointment. I personally think it's a well-made and interesting album. But it all boils down to personnal taste . Maybe if he had made two (or three) albums like what people were hoping for and did this later on in his career as some kind of "side project" or new artistic direction it would've been better viewed. Kind of like Kanye had College Dropout, Late registration and Graduation before 808s. Or maybe not

His whole career after black on both sides has been a disappointment. That newer Blackstar album was ass too
