Shannon Sharpe broke down why NFL players will never go on strike around the 17 min mark. A lot of them regardless of how big their contracts are live check-to-check financially supporting extended family and sidepieces. And of course spending money on luxuries for themselves. Look at that Leonard Fournette thread, he's tricking off on a streamer he just met.

Average career length in the NFL is 3 years and the average salary is $3M.

You're not going to convince the overwhelming majority of the union to miss out on one of those years so some bozo GM can sign players like Daniel Jones to $200M contracts :skip:

The median NFL salary is $860K. That bottom half who can be replaced by new draft classes isn't trying to go on strike.

The men in your avatar cared about how much other people were earning and their health.

:mjpls:
So tf what. Their fight was a common decency and being seen and respected as a man. Why tf y’all care about shyt these athletes of today collectively bargained? If y’all are so vehemently against the treatment that they receive, stop watching. Take up a position and stand on it.

Not related and not presented as a counter to the premise of the thread, but I'd probably guess all the NFL guys probably make more off the field than the NBA guys do.

Think in the NFL there are too many guys willing to take whatever. Then you have NFLPA staff actively colluding with the NFL.
U crazy as hell. :laff:

This comment doesn’t seem like common decency toward your fellow man.

A bunch of reports came out during the last negotiation about big name players like Rodgers and Brady trying to rally against the 17th game- one more game check isn't worth the extra wear & tear when you're already in that top tier salary. Mahomes already soft-launched his opinion against game 18.

The players that voted that deal through are the ones who make up the bulk of a roster, for them that 17th game check and extra money actually makes a difference and goes a long way. Billy Joe on special teams playing for his 4th team in 5 years doesn't give a fukk about what Mahomes has to say in a labor dispute, even if he's right.

It's the reality of it being a lot easier to rally and prepare 300+ players (NBA) and 700+ ( MLB) than it is the 1,700 the NFLPA represents. More than 20% of active players live paycheck to paycheck, that combined with shorter careers (try convincing a 25 year old to throw away a year of his prime earnings) and not having an outlet overseas kills any leverage.

Yeah it seems like the stars will have to go on strike by themselves for there to be any real changes.

These cats labor strife/issues don’t affect me in the slightest. Them getting a few points on the percentages have no impact on my life, industry I work in, etc. I just don’t need or care for sports like that anymore. shyt is strictly for entertainment and all a distraction. It is basically background noise for me now.

It’s funny, but I think the players who have it pound for pound the best of both groups overall are offensive linemen.

Compared to defenses they hardly take hits to the head and get paid bank for 17 total games. It’s still a taxing physical requirement but so is running on your feet for 82 games as a big NBA player.

A Left Tackle’s salary is crazy and many times they’re dropping back rather than brute forcing and initiating contact.

Lol offensive lineman get hit in the head damn near every play
