edit: just saw the additional......

the argument was that african american was what whites used to categorize our nationality. we've not heard of european american, but we have heard 'white american.

wrong. african = ethnicity, african american = nationality. ethnicity is where your origin is from, nationality is where YOU are from. YOU are african american, per white people, I, however, consider myself american. but we already went thru this pages ago.

African American ain't a nationality bruh, American is.

Nationality is the nation which you are from. African America isn't a nation. Ethnicity and nationality can be the same thing but in the case of African Americans it's different. Chinese is an ethnicity and a nationality. With Japanese Brazilians their ethnicity is Japanese, their nationality is Brazilian. African Americans ethnicity is AA but their nationality is American.

That's a nationality not a race. :martel:

It has become a race within the American social construct. An Indian person is neither black or white so we use their ethnicity to describe them. We know exactly where they came from(India) so it's easy to classify them. Most American black and white folks, have no idea whatsoever where they can from, yeah it's either Europe or Africa or a mixture of both, but we don't know exactly therefore we are either black or white according to the color of our skin.

The problem is we want to take an outdated, hateful, non-scientific idea(race) and try to make sense of it in modern America. The truth is it makes no sense, saying a person is black or white literaly tells you NOTHING about that person or where they came from. On the sensus you can check black(race) or Asian(nationality) they are not comparable descriptions yet we view them as such because the entire idea is fukked in the first place.

No but you see White American.

Do you know why that is? During the 1700s, 2nd and 3rd generation were separating themselves from the new european immigrants from Ireland and Italy, so they began to remove the european part to differentiate themselves. To them, their ancestors and parents were american, so the same should actually apply to 'african' americans. It had more to do with american pride than actual scientific fact.

Indian people are Asian, what's their race?

It's only a race because we have to call them something. When the idea of "race" came about it was only about Americans and the color of their skin. As other people assimilated into American society their nationality/ethnicity has been used as their race. But first and foremost Asian is a nationality/ethnicity.
