We won 83 golds in 1984 Los Angeles (helped by the USSR boycot though)
The most gold medals at a non-boycotted Olympics is 75 by the US in 1904.

Well, 46 golds is the most the US has ever won in a non-boycotted Olympics since 1904.
The USSR won 55 golds in 1988 though (their last Olympics, a year before the Berlin wall fell)
