Who was that AU fan that was posting Etling stats in our scrimmage? Well time for me to return the favor

The Auburn coaches are still trying to decide who will be the team’s starting quarterback against Georgia Southern come Sept. 2nd, but all signs have been pointing to Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham as the favorite to win the competition. In the famous words of Lee Corso, “not so fast, my friend.”

Stidham reportedly struggled in the Tigers’ first scrimmage of the fall according to Josh Vitale of OANow.com. The former 4-star JUCO prospect took a couple of sacks while also tossing two interceptions — one of which was returned for a touchdown by defensive back Jamel Dean. It’s a small sample size, but Stidham will need to show more if he wants a chance to uproot last year’s starting QB Sean White.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn had this to say about the team’s quarterbacks during his press conference following the scrimmage:

“All three of them did some good things, but all three of them have numerous things they need to work on.”

Sean White struggled to stay healthy last season, but he was efficient when he was on the field. As a sophomore, he threw for 1,679 yards and 9 touchdowns while completing 63.9 percent of his passes. In addition to his inability to stay healthy, White’s struggles as a downfield passer also contributed to opening the door for Stidham to take the starting job.

The competition is wide open right now, but one of these two players needs to step up and stake a claim to the job if Auburn wants a chance at competing for an SEC West title this season.

Cause for concern? Jarrett Stidham struggles in Auburn’s first fall scrimmage
Our defense shut down White for the most part in practices last year too...ended up being the most accurate passer in the SEC still tho (at least before his arm fell out of its socket) :yeshrug:

Stidham is going against a defense that was top 2 or 3 in the conference last year, and isnt allowed to do shyt like A. scramble B. truck people C. both A and B and mobility is one of the main factors we recruited him in the first place :manny: these scrimmages basically are how often can the DL tee off on the QB and have been under Gus since even Cam's time here

Not trying to throw no shade no nothing for this one time bruh, but I will say for a fact that the main reason I see alot of analysts continue to big LSU up year after year is cause they get alot of 5 stars

that doesnt cancel ur point out, its just something I had to mention
That's not true our in state players just turn out to be undercover 5*

Honey badger
Tre White
OBJ
Mo Claiborne

None of these guys were 5*

We only get one or two 5 stars a year if any...

Stock pile of high ranking recruits would've been a better way to put I suppose

Da'ron Payne - 5 star best DT in the country
Da'shawn Hand - 5 star #1 recruit in the country a few years ago
LaBryan Ray - 5 star top DE 2017
Raekwon Davis - 4 star only b/c he was raw back then. He's a complete stud now
Josh Frazier - 4 star stud no one talks about
Isaiah Buggs - 4 star Top Juco player last year
Quinnen Williams - 4 star; Jonathan Allen and all our former Dlinemen rave about how good he is going to be
Phidarian Mathis - 4 star
Johnny Dwight - 4 star

That's not even listing all of the OLB that will be mostly pass rushers like Anfernee Jennings, Christian Miller, Terrell Lewis, Mack Wilson, Jamey Mosley, Markail Benton, VanDarius Cowan, Chris Allen

DE Jonathan Kongbo - 5-star #1 JUCO player in 2016
DT Kahlil McKenzie - 5-star #1 overall player in the 2015 class according to Scout.com
DE Kyle Phillips - 5-star DE in 2015 class
DT Shy Tuttle - 4-star stud that when healthy is a beast
DE Darrell Taylor - 4-star DE in 2015 class
DT Alexis Johnson - 4 star JUCO from 2016 class

Anybody with decent recruiting classes the last couple of years can put together lists like this.

Lol that was basically my point idiot. But no, no one else can put together a list like Bama obviously. And Phillips was a 4 star and those last 2 were barely 4 stars. That list sucks.

According to 247s actual ratings he was a 5-star and the #21 player in the class of 2015. He just is a 4-star on the composite rankings.

Kyle Phillips, Hillsboro, Strong-Side Defensive End

I'll never understand why 247 don't promote their OWN rankings. They almost seem like they're trying to hide it. :yeshrug:

Tennessee Dline is as good as Michigan's but its not on Bama's level. I didn't even list the stars of the specialty pass rush guys. And Rashaan Evans is supposed to drop down and be a rusher in some packages
