You're missing the point. They're building towards being a real contender in the very near future. You know what they're probably gonna try to trade that pick for in the future? A player like Mikal Bridges because every team in the league is looking for three & D guys like him who can switch everything.

Zhaire Smith has the potential to be exactly that, plus he's only 19. And they got an unprotected pick out of that trade.
