I've seen a lot of people mentioning the dude who runs the Rays. I first saw it on Metsmerized Online when they talked about the good he could do with a larger checkbook. Not necessarily throwing money at FAs but building a solid infrastructure with scouting, analytics, etc. to get a nice farm system going while being able to swing for the fences when a good opportunity presents itself.

In theory, that sounds like a good plan. But you gotta think building teams with limited funds and putting together the best of the best, regardless of price is night and day. I’m not sure someone that excels at one, can excel at the other. I could be wrong tho. :yeshrug:

How we feel about Sandy returning?
@Carolina Slim @Spidey Man @Tommy Fits

I'm cool with it. I'm interested to see who comes in as VP of Baseball Ops and GM. Sandy helped make chicken salad out of you know what. The problems I had with some of his moves (or lack thereof) probably were a result of his marching orders from the Coupons, like letting Reyes and Murph walk. I think Steve is going the route where he's not trying to blow everyone away with his checkbook, but he's definitely going to pay top dollar for the best minds and let them cook. And if at some point that means going all out for a player, then he'll do that.

At this point, I just think about the fact that the Coupons are gonna be gone, and I just sit there and go :mjgrin::steviej:

I'm fine with it. This time he'll have money, an actual budget, and no Wilpon interference. Plus he actually did rebuild the farm and left it in great shape, several of his picks are not only contributing but are some of our best players. It's not Sandy's fault that Brodie has traded away tons of minor league talent that are contributing on big league teams are close to it.

He made a qualifying offer to Murphy which he turned down.

fan graphs WAR of players cited 2020: Justin Dunn: -0.2 Anthony Kay: -0.1 Bobby Wahl: -0.2 No MLB games in 2020: Kelenic, Woods, Humprheys, Smith, Bautista, Ross Players Mets received: Robinson Cano +1.3 Edwin Diaz +0.8 JD Davis +0.5 Miguel Castro: +0.2 Billy Hamilton: -0.2

I only saw Justin Dunn play and he was nothing special. To say these trades were a disaster is hyperbole.

Can't judge off what the prospects have done so far imo but it definitely has potential to look very bad but time will tell.
