Thats the thing, the schools don’t have leverage if they want a “proven commodity”. LSU can EASILY pull some FCS hot shot or a coordinator from some other large program but they don’t want that. They don’t want to hire Cignetti from James Madison, they want the Cignetti from Indiana.

So if you are going to pull a coach from a comfortable situation you have to make “an offer they can’t refuse”. LSU didn’t hire Brian Kelly from Central Michigan, they hired him from ND, so they had to pay.

And they aren’t just bidding against themselves, they are bidding against the field. The field has disposable income they can use for coaches as well.

Yep which is why Lane Kiffin is about to get a stupid bag playing these schools each other.

i remember an athletic article. At the end of 2021, seven of the best jobs in college football became available at roughly the same time. USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Florida, Miami and Oregon

then in 2000-01- USC, Ohio State, Miami, Bama were open

I don't understand why mfs started giving out these contracts to dudes like Kelly, Franklin, and just damn near everyone. It's like they all saw what happened with A&M & Jimbo and said lemme get some of that, lol.

If Kelly would've declined the LSU job b/c the contract would've been anything lesser than he got, well just move on to the next candidate cuz he would've been doing them a favor anyway. Not sure who they thought they were gettin'...

these coach contracts are completely out of hand and I don't feel any sympathy for schools acting stupid and delusional over these coaches. Then complain about NIL and the portal

he ain't leaving the Flats fam. . If you goto a school like ours, it's already a different mindset. We good.

NFL job is the only thing I'd have no problem with him leaving for. THAT makes sense. The rest of these open jobs have delusional fanbases and expectations attached and he knows that. We're not a delusional factory school.

Even with Michigan, Harbs left for an NFL job despite the fukkery of that last season with him.

Yup.

Even then a lot of the ACC schools aren't as sorry as cats think. Duke ain't really been trash for a while now. UVA getting their shyt together. If Cuse didn't lose their QB, they'd still be solid. And many of the schools got bread. Just the alums spent it on the school side of shyt and not the sports side. That's changing.
