The Chicago Cubs had a very difficult strength of schedule in the early part of the 2025 season. Their opponents, through the first 29 games, had a .573 winning percentage, the highest in the league. This was due in part to playing teams like the Dodgers, Padres,Diamondbacks, and Rangers multiple times.

Yeah, that’s kinda how “record against teams over .500” works. That’s like asking for credit for beating a ranked team early in the season in college football because they were ranked high in the preseason. Cream rises to the top as the season progresses.

MLB.com standings say the cubs are 13-15 vs +.500 teams

4 wins vs dodgers ,3 wins vs padres,4 wins vs Phillies,Mets,tigers,giants,2 vs brewers, 4vs d backs,2 vs rangers

That’s the difference they are not .500 anymore
