Devers should thank everyone for getting off this squad. This is just sad.

Brown needed just 28 pitches to get through the first three frames. But over his next two-plus innings, he threw 53 pitches and gave up eight runs on a quartet of two-run homers. Monday marked Brown’s 14th start this season and the sixth time he’s given up five or more runs.

@Remote do you see what I’m saying now?

You’re right.

At a quick glance at his stats page: he’s been unlucky with a really high BABIP and low LOB%. Over time I would expect things to settle down for him. But the Cubs are trying to make a deep playoff run and they can’t afford to let Brown work it out for long.

Another problem is that Brown is essentially a 2-pitch guy: fastball and curveball. And his fastball isn’t very good…despite how hard he throws it. So he needs to develop a 3rd pitch. Apparently he throws a change up, but not really. He’s either gotta develop that. Or, drop the fastball altogether and go with a sinker. He’s getting pounded so might as well let hitters pound it into the ground.

But at 25 or 26 years old, it’s looking like’s on his way to being a reliever.
