I kind of get it. Type of offensive counting stats he provides at a position that is lacking it. He isn't a liability behind the dish. And if you're big on WAR he seems to over deliver there. He should be able to produce for the bulk of the contract if not all 6 years.

I just couldn't reward that hitting profile. Who ages well hitting .218?

I also don't think catcher is that important. Platoon a couple cheap guys who occasionally run into one and put that money to better use.

Cal's also responsible for arguably handling the best rotation in the league. They just better hope he's catching during the entire run because a big chunk of his value goes away as a 1B/DH. Without the glove he's Rowdy Tellez.

No way in hell I'm giving a career .218 hitter that contract.

Plus defender at a premium position that hits for power will always be valuable. Don't really care about the low BA, but his career OBP is concerning.
