That core trio of Maddux/Glavine and Smoltz man they just get pitching. I love how he put this. The context of Nolan Ryan being a 1 of 1 and that you think we really have 20/30 of these dudes actually out here today.

They all understood the art and science of pitching too. Helped that they were teammates but still.

I'll never understand why it's so difficult to just change speeds, change location, hit your spots, pitch to contact and trust your defense. Velocity and spin rate aren't everything.

My uncle managed youth baseball and would always tell me he would only let kids throw a fastball and changeup. You shouldn't be throwing breaking pitches that young.
