Bored so I was looking at the top WAR position players so far in 2025.

The top guy for the Pirates is Oneil Cruz at 2.2 fWAR (Fangraphs). He comes in at 62nd overall.

You have to go all the way down to Isiah Kiner-Falefa to find another Pirate. He's 0.7 fWAR at 133rd overall.

This might be a bit misleading since technically Ke'Bryan Hayes is at 0.9 fWAR but he's not on the Pirates anymore.

Which is why I don’t get they didn’t sell as much as possible cuz that roster is insanely weak

There’s a ton of upside with Oneil Cruz if they could fix his strikeouts and long swing.

Skenes is already a superstar.

But you don’t need any of them.

The Pirates could trade both and build around Bubba Chandler, Jared Jones, Konnor Griffin and whatever prospects they got back in trades.
