For fun,

In 2004 Barry Bonds walked 232 times.
But 120 of them were intentional walks.

Let’s say Bonds had zero intentional walks. Unrealistic, but for shyts and giggles.

That leaves him with 112 legit walks, which is still elite. That’s about how many walks an MVP has in a given year.

So what about those 120 intentional walks that become ABs now?

Well in 2004, Bonds averaged 1 HR every 8.29 ABs.

So 120 divided by 8.29 means about 14 more HR. And he hit 45 that year so he might have hit 59 HR…at age 39. In only 147 games.

And by the way, Bonds hit 4th in the lineup. It’s not like these days where typically Ohtani and Judge hit 2nd to maximize their ABs each year.

Bonds never had a 700 PA season. Ohtani had 731 last year.
Just coming across this post but I dunno if you seen this but it’s one of my favourite YouTube vids.
