all the pro leagues cross conference. Interleague play was just the way to ease that into a regular thing for baseball. Once universal DH was secured there was never a chance they were stopping the cross league play. The fact that they held onto the split league rules for as long as they did with more cross league games every year is something. The current division layouts already favor the Eastern divisions, but putting the two biggest from each of those Eastern divisions in the same league would definitely create an imbalance in the TV deals.
