Those were the best options. Taking Noa Essen-idkwtfhisname is was the most nonsensical thing they could have done. There's a real chance that the Bulls would have been able to trade out of 12 and the guy the picked would have still be there at 20 or wherever the Hawks picked from

at 20, I have doubts. You might have had to settle for Asa Newell (which is just an American version of Essengue)

There was legit talk that Essengue was going top 10, so at the time, it felt like Essengue fell to you.

I thought if Queen wasn't there, that you'd just punt a center search and go for the best wing

Maybe, but either way, Essengue wasn't a player to really prioritize when you are still trying to be good for some reason, and you have a coach that is going to try and win as many games as possible.

There's a disconnect between the roster that AKME is building and the coach that is managing the team/expectations.

Whoever the Bulls ended up drafting at 20 would have been doing the same or more than who they ended up taking... and they would of had an amazing unprotected 1st for trading down.
