Americans can't win because American baseball culture is stuffy and toxic.
They won it in 2017, while they were very close to winning it in the last two finals.
2017 led by Cap10 Jones really meshed as a squad and I would say overall the least impressive team compared to 2023 and 2026 rosters. 2023 team was great but that Japan team were dogs man. But, similar to this 2026 Venezuela team that 2017 US team WANTED it.They won it in 2017, while they were very close to winning it in the last two finals.
This team and the way DeRosa managed them was just so disappointing. The bats were all basically cold. DeRosa got way too cute with bullpen management. like Jax was dealin there was no reason to turn the ball over to Whitlock. Should've let Jax run two and then gone to Miller. You use Whitlock etc. if there were extra innings. Starting Buxton and Bregman over PCA and Gunnar was just stupid. Sure Gunnar hit a pop up in his only AB, but imagine letting a guy who was raking get 3-4 ABs.
Take nothing away from team Venezuela but this US team didn't really show up when it mattered.

I don’t wanna kill DeRosa, because the pitching was pretty much lights out in every game except Italy. Bregman started, because he had better numbers against ERod, while Gunnar supposedly struggled against lefties. Holding DR and Venny to a combined 4 runs is nothing short of amazing, the fact is USA lost because of the bats.
Very similar to DR, everyone were lauding both US and DR mainly due to the lineup, yet both offenses couldn’t do shyt in their biggest games. Cal was damn near MVP, yet was hitless this tournament, and the best hitter since Bonds(Judge) failed in numerous clutch situations.
