Berto's never going to be what Virgil Hill specializes in, cerebral midrange boxer punchers.

He needs a guy like Ronnie Shields who can harness what he used to be, an aggressive, explosive combination puncher with better defense and conditioning.

you mean Virgil Hunter. but you are right, Berto is definitely not cerebral. I knew he was gonna fight the wrong fight against Ortiz. he didnt show him any respect. couldve outboxed Ortiz easy. he couldve done a better job against Guererro too. he gets drawn into fights and doesnt know how to adapt or force a fighter to fight his type of fight. Berto is similar to Meldrick Taylor but Taylor was a sharper puncher, Berto not as skilled as Taylor definitely but probably more athletic and slightly better defense.

Berto is not a boxer though. The Urango fight was an exception. The problem is, he can't get in and out. Terrible footowork, and he has no clinch game when he gets close. Collazo,Ortiz, Zaveck, and Guerrero all fought the same way. Stay close and work.

breh....I though Matthysse couldve won the fight, thats not my argument here. Lederman scored it 95-94 for Matthysse, Fightnews had the exact same score but in favor of Alexander. the shyt wasnt a wash for either fighter. My point is to say, there is no separation. you cant tell if Matthysse is better than anyone else in the division because honestly, he isnt. All of those guys are on even levels. That doesnt make the division stacked....just competitive. 147 has better fighters that and better paydays. Lastly for the record, I never said 175 was a good division, in fact the whole point of my post about Dawson going to 168 to fight Ward was to imply that there were no good matches to be made at 175.

but the point is a lot of people thought it was a close fight...so is Mathysse CLEARLY better than Alexander? we are talking about one close fight...by most people's eyes. Alexander may have gotten a gift but could Mathysse beat him 9 times out of 10? thats what I am saying. Bradley, Alexander, Mathysse, Khan, Judah, and yes, Garcia too...they are all close to the same level. Some maybe slightly ahead of others but not by a wide margin.
