i still can't get over how people had the fight close? Donaire got dominated by a smarter boxer!

he won the 10-8 round and maybe one more. people at ringside probably liked the fact that Nonito was going forward the whole fight. they confuse coming forward with effective aggressiveness. defense just doesnt get the credit it should these days. Rigo was masterful.

yep :pachaha: he admitted that most of the strategy was done over the phone as Garcia was busy with Alvarado. so he probably had some laxed assistant doing his conditioning and probably very little or low quality sparring. Garcia was in his corner but spent very little time in camp if any.

see, this is why I say Nonito was overrated a lil bit. he has trememdous physical tools but apparently, he is not as good a boxer as we may have thought. its just that when he was fighting against guys who were not as good of boxer as he, he looked like a boxing master. he came into this fight looking for one punch, not looking to box or stay busy.

his performance was disappointing to say the least. no P4P fighter gets virtually shut out. Shane Mosely is the same type of fighter....just an elite athlete in his prime who was a good boxer but not a great one. when your athleticism starts to decline or you meet up with someone who has similar reflexes, then you are resorted to looking for one punch and you dont have the skills to set up the one punch.

agreed & this is why I don't believe Floyd will have as big an issue as he gets older. He's so much smarter than he gets credit for.

It's why guys like Hopkins are still doing it & doing it well. They're disciplined in & out of the ring, and have incredible boxing IQ.

I've never been a big Donaire fan, and I'm glad it was Rigo who did it. Guys like Rigo can fight forever because of that discipline and IQ.

Floyd is the smartest boxer in the game, bar none. The way he fought Zab was just ingenious. Before that fight I was telling people that Zab had more power and even more speed than FMJ so if Floyd tried that jab to the body, Zab could come right over top. Also if he did the shoulder roll against the ropes, Zab could get shots in to the head and body. If you noticed, in that fight he did very little of those things. He knew Zab was dangerous early so all he had to do was stay in the center of the ring and take advantage of Zab's poor balance. After that, Zab would lose mental focus and it would be a wrap.

I was a Donaire fan but even though he got fighter of the year, I didnt watch any of those fights. There was no intrigue to me, plus his body looked a lot softer than previous years. The last fight I watched from him was Montiel.

I'm a Donaire fan, but Rigo gave him that work. It was beautiful boxing.

Though I had read a lot about him, this was my first time seeing him. He put on a clinic. I'll be pulling for him to get more shine and hopefully after last nights performance, he gets it.

I had a gut feeling, after watching tape of both fighters that Rigo would win easily.

I need to start betting on fights.

I saw some sportswriter mention that the way this fight went is how he always saw the hypothetical mayweather-pacquiao fight going. I can see that, with floyd giving him a boxing lesson, but also being more offensive down the stretch and inflicting more punishment.

I don't think it would be that much of a landslide. I picked Floyd to win, but in the last 2-3 years there have been slight drops in speed / reflexes with Floyd which I think was Pac's best shot to give him trouble on top of Floyd getting the ring cut off easier than he used to (Cotto fight). Pac, though an offensive minded fighter, is much more skilled than Donaire and I think Donaire sorta underestimated Rigo (as did a lot of people).

I DO think though Mayweather vs Pacquiao would have been just a little more exciting, but a lot of filler rounds. If you think about it, how many "exciting" fights as far as action has Floyd been in? Styles make fights.

Donaire's eye swell up soooooooo fukking fast. Reminded me of when Holyfield headbutt Rahman about ten yrs ago. Rahman's eye blew up to the size of a golf ball in seconds.
