As I've been saying in previous posts, the Mayweather vs Canelo fight (if it ever happens) should happen at 154 for the simple reason that Floyd has fought for titles at 154lbs. If he'd never fought at 154 and said 147 was his max, then that's a different story. In similar fashion that I don't look at Andre Ward's win over Dawson as a huge accolade being Dawson (foolishly) dropped a whole weight class down being at a disadvantage, the same would apply in my view of a Mayweather vs Canelo if Floyd made Canelo drop down to 147.

I'm still thinking there's some posturing going on and or waiting for the fight to be made May of 2014, but if and when it does happen it's gotta be at 154.

Here is how I look at things. I am a dude who HATES built in excuses and revisionist history. Let's take the opinion that Ward has nothing to brag about by beating a drained Dawson. To me, thats a built in excuse. Dawson knew what he was getting into and didnt cry about losing. Still, I am a Dawson fan and he wouldve lost at 175. The thing is though, suppose he KOs Ward at 168 or 175....people will say Chad the bigger man picking on small guy. Somebody always got something to say.

I dont look at things that way. If a fighter breaks his hand or gets butted repeatedly, thats during the fight. I dont like pre-fight excuses. If Canelo KOs Floyd at 154, I'll tell you one person you wont hear complaining about Canelo was too big. Floyd knows what he is doing.

Personally, I would prefer Floyd fight Canelo at 154 just to hear the excuses that come out folk mouth when Floyd whips his ass. Most people watch Floyd to see him lose now, and thats sad that we cant truly appreciated our best fighters. If Canelo beats Floyd, the same people who say the fight should be at 154 will say Canelo is too big.

Taking the stance that Floyd should fight someone because he has a belt in their division means you agree that RJJ shouldve fought the Klitschkos, SRL shouldve fought Virgil Hill, Pernell Whitaker shouldve fought Terry Norris in their weight class. Its the same thing. I try to steer clear of double standards.

This is all a smoke screen. Its just to build up the fight. Me personally, if Canelo wins at any weight he will get full credit from me. Same with Floyd...because when you are only one weight class apart, skills pay bills. I dont want to hear built in excuses on either side.

Oh ok gotcha. ...so the "Super" JMW champion cant fight the "regular" JMW
champion unless he goes down to WW all because Cotto touched him up a little....

:deadmanny:

no, the world welterweight champion who also happens to hold a title at super welterweight is offering another super welterweight a shot at being a two-division champ, which means history in the highest form for beating the worlds top paid athlete, longest reigning champion, previous linear welterweight champion, and the sports biggest draw. beating Floyd is more than money and a belt, its HISTORY.

Floyd dont owe Canelo shyt.

You talking why not get Sergio?? At 154???He pulled the same bullshyt before stating if Sergio could make 150 NOT 154 a fight could happen.. its crazy because when he said that he was bragging about how Cottos is really undefeated and that he would fight him at 154 no problem.. so you have a situation where he can only fight certain people at 154 and certain people at 147. How convenient :youngsabo: .... now hes pulling the same spineless shyt with Canelo... Now the 154 pounder can only fight Floyd at 147:mjpls:

Lets keep coppin pleas for Floydie though... the shyt is amusing

Martinez said he would come to 150 to fight floyd - floyd didnt suggest it . . :shaq2:

You need a hobby dude, this pent up hate cant be healthy :heh:

You're right, Floyd doesn't owe Canelo anything, but again it comes down to Floyd making comments such as, "When Pacquiao fought Cotto, he fought him at a catchweight. Im fighting Cotto where he's most comfortable". I understand Floyd should have advantages monetarily because he's got a proven record, but for the sake of the fight itself it should be on a level playing field. Now, Floyd doesn't HAVE TO fight Canelo at all. He can fight Khan, Garcia and Alexander for the next year and half for all we know, but if we look at what's available...what fight is bigger than a Canelo fight if both win their next fights (they're clearly not fighting in September)? And for it to be a meaningful fight it's gotta be at 154.

Right now it's clear that after Floyd's performance against Guerrero (as usual with most of Floyd's fights) the excitement and awe is still somewhat in the air and he looks like he's a Lightweight again. But as with Boxing time and time again, thoughts change literally overnight with just 1 fight. I got a feeling by December, the thought of Mayweather vs Canelo will have the majority of people like

No, I didnt see the fight. Will get around to it one day. I am not saying he lost, just telling you that everyone that I talked to said they felt he did. I didnt have one person tell me they thought Pac won and even you said it was a draw in your eyes.

JMM beat Pac in their 3rd fight imo:manny:

He was robbed.

also, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Dawson had no problem coming down for Ward. whether it was the right thing to do or not is debatable. I give credit to Dawson though, he aint scared. I am sorry, I cant give Canelo credit if Dawson will come down 7 to fight Ward for $1 mil and this guy wont come down 7 to fight the best fighter in the world for 10 x that amount.

And everybody is discrediting Andre Ward's victory because of Chad Dawson being weight drained......would you like that to be on Floyd's resume? That he had to drained Alvarez in order to beat him?
