I agree with most of what Floyd Sr. says. LM is not an elite fighter. He is not even the best fighter in his division (until he beats Garcia IMO, and Garcia is not elite). I think the winner of Garcia-LM would have to be considered elite though.

I dont see a lot of skill from LM, thats why I am confident Garcia will beat him. Funny about all the counters FMS was talking about. That pull back counter is one of the most devastating counters, but you have to have speed to pull it off. Michael Moorer used to be good for that counter. He stunned Holyfield with it.

To me, LM looks like a much less skilled version of the OLDER Arturo Gatti (R.I.P.) the way he moves and sets up his power. He doesnt have the jab or footwork that Gatti had though. He is not as good a combination puncher as Gatti. Gatti had a better defense too when he was strictly playing defense. Gatti's problem was....he couldnt integrate his defense into his offense well. I wouldnt say that LM integrates his defense better but he is willing to take a shot to land his counters. LM has a better chin and more power. Again though, I am comparing him to the older more flat-footed version of Gatti. The 130lb Gatti was a very skilled boxer-puncher. No comparison whatsoever.

i wouldn't say couldn't in regards to gatti's defense being incorporated its that it went out the window in the first violent exchange he would have in a fight lol..but yeah when he was disciplined with it gatti was world class all the way

Ward says he "cant see Kessler" beating Froch. I wont say I cant see him winning but I definitely favor Froch in this. Froch is better. I remember before I saw Kessler fight I was hearing all this hype about how good he was. Then when I saw him, I was very underwhelmed. I was like this guy has no chance against Calzaghe.

I love this forum, and all of the different opinions given in here. Very passionate cats and I read it everyday. The back and forth in here would make for a damn good weekly TV show.

That being said, I see every fighter outside of Floyd written off as "non-elite". In today's boxing ( not comparing to past eras), someone has to be considered elite class.
If there are no elite fighters right now, they Floyd needs to retire, cause to everyone in here, all other fighters have a huge flaw that prevents them from being great.

So who are the 5-6 "today's elite" fighters in your eyes?

He improved greatly in his latter career defense wise, had nikkas thinking he was a legit threat to Mayweather, Syn is right though he could look beautiful moving and boxing using that thunder jab to discourage the other fighters offense, but when them blows starting coming in the moving stopped and he would stand still and guard no counters no nothing.....................

strictly my views...lemme start with that disclaimer

outside of Floyd...other fighters I consider elite are:

Andre Ward - but he needs to keep the same level of opposition which will mean he needs to fight outside of his weight class.

Juan Manuel Marquez - still elite but not much time left on his clock.

Both Klitschko's are elite pretty much by default. No serious challenges or heavyweight contenders at this time.

Abner Mares based on his competition level.

Sergio Martinez - his days are numbered as an elite though.

and Manny Pacquiao is still elite unless he gets crushed by Rios then we will know he has truly gotten old overnight.

fighters who are on the cusp of being elite are:

Adrien Broner - he needs to beat Paulie and perhaps another tough fighter at 140-147

Danny Garcia/Lucas Matthysse winner - will be considered elite because of clearing the smoke at 140

Guillermo Rigondeax - a win over a guy like Mares vaults him to elite status after dominating Donaire

Nonito Donaire - Only one fight outside of elite to me. if he can beat Rigondeaux in a rematch or beat Mares he is back in there.

5-6 Elite fighters right now...

Besides $ May

....

Before I answer, I wanna just say it's all subjective and by Elite, I'm listing fighters I believe to be A Class fighters, some better than others sure, but still A class fighters IMO who I'd favor against almost anyone not listed

Now:

Vitali/Wladimir Klitschko
Marco Huck
Yoan Pablo Hernandez
Chad Dawson
Bernard Hopkins
Andre Ward
Carl Froch (fighting this weekend)
Sergio Gabriel Martinez
Daniel Geale
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez
Juan Manuel Marquez
Danny Garcia
Lucas Matthysse
Adrien Broner
Takashi Uchiyama
Mickey Garcia
Chris John
Abner Mares
Guillermo Rigondeaux
Nonito Donaire
Anselmo Moreno
Shinsuke Yamanaka
Omar Navarez (fighting this weekend)
Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr.
Juan Francisco Estrada
Akira Yaegashi
Brian Viloria
Roman Gonzalez (fighting this weekend)
Katsunari Takayama

^^The bolded are fighters I believe are "special" or "unique" in either the skill or physical department.

(I can't wait till I can justifiably place Gary Russel Jr. in this list)

And THAT is why I love boxing, EVERY-PERSON-LISTED can be beaten, defeated and deleted, you never know what happens next :blessed:

One punch......all it takes........one. :wow:

.shyt if cotto wasn't so shortsighted he would have been rockin 2 belts at 154 right now if he didn't pass up k9 when he was a champ

if only he could've ducked any proper challenges :to:

So far, I have seen listed as "elite":

-Andre Ward (168)
-Juan Manuel Marquez (140-147), downside of career though
-Manny Pacquiao (140-147), downside of career
-Danny Garcia (140)
-Lucas Matthysse (140)
-Abner Mares (126?)
-Sergio Martinez (160), downside of career

Got Next
-Adrien Broner (130)
-G. Rigondeaux (126-130)
-Nonito Donaire (126-130)

Didnt see Canelo Alvarez (147-154), which is a crime.
Mikey "Angel" Garcia is also a beast on the rise.

So, based off of this, Floyd shouldn't fight anyone other than Alvarez, Pacquiao or JMM. Anything else is a waste.

Also, Andre Ward has No one to fight close to his weight class, except Sergio Martinez. That would be a good fight.
