Frida Wallberg Health Update, Mishap Will Be Investigated - Boxing News
By Per Ake Persson

As reported on Friday, WBC female super featherweight champ Frida Wallberg suffered an upset TKO loss to LA-based Australian Diana Prazak tonight in the headliner of Golden Ring´s show in Stockholm, Sweden.

In the fight - Wallberg (11-2) was ahead on points after five but appeared to fading and Prazak (12-2) just kept coming and got through with a sweeping right hand in the seventh that buckled Wallberg´s knees - and she never seemed to recover. She looked a bit out of it in the corner but came out for the eight but was floored by a short hard left hook during an exchange from the challenger. Wallberg was hurt but was allowed to continue and was then floored again by a short right hook and referee Bela Florian waved it off.

Wallberg got to her feet and staggered to her corner out of this world into the arms of the ringside physician who seemed to think she was okay but Lucia Rijker, who headed Prazak´s corner, knew differently and called for the doctor to return and Wallberg left the ring on a stretcher and was taken to hospital.

Wallberg is suffering from what they call cerebral hemorrage and she underwent surgery at a hospital in Stockholm. Wallberg is in a medically induced coma with a respirator helping her breathe.

The nurses at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm made what is described as a "light wakeup" at 4PM of Wallberg and there was a positive response from her, reports svt.se quoting Frida´s boyfriend and promoter Robert Stridsberg. She was however but back to sleep and and there will be further checkups.

Swedish media insists that Wallberg was knocked out twice which is incorrect - she was floored twice in the eighth last night and then stopped and she should perhaps have been stopped from coming out for round eight as she was staggered in the seventh and didn't seem to recover well - all easy to say from your favorite your TV chair of course.

There will now be an investigation from the Swedish Federation on how this could have happened - but let's get an explanation on why the doctor - Robert Ludwig - who's been a boxing doctor for decades now - could misjudge the situation as he did.

Wallberg´s trainer, William Nguesseu, a former boxer who had to retire after a head injury, is not happy at all with Dr. Ludwig but let´s mention again that without Lucia Rijker, Diana Prazak´s trainer, this could have been even worse. Rijker quickly saw something was wrong and tried to work with Wallberg and then called for the doctor to return - and only then did the ambulance people arrive with oxygen.

FNF for those who missed it...

SICK KO at the end...4 in ring physicians, swarming dude to make sure he's ok.

That's the difference PS, that's why the commission or doctor needs to get their shyt pushed back, no excuse for that level of incompetence in a sport like this. Zero tolerance. :birdman:
