Hopefully it's actually a fight.

Last "big" fight in Philly was over 10 years ago, B-Hop v. Morrade Hakkar. Terrible fight, think B-Hop may have been promoting himself during this time. Who remembers this?

Philly is owed a big fight with actual intrigue, the Rocky movies don't count.

Atlantic City is like 45-60 minutes away from Philly breh it makes a lot more sense to fight there from a $ standpoint.(which is why Philly guys usually fight there)

I've tried to forget that abortion of a fight with Hopkins and Hakkar. nikka ran around the ring for the whole first round. :mjlol: I think his promoter eventually stopped it.

Only thing memorable was Rahman dropping Tua in the last seconds of their rematch, but I can't remember if it counted or not.

Terrible night of boxing. My pops threw the remote at me for hogging the tv for that shyt. :snoop:

@Tuaminator once shared his thoughts on that card..in particular to his cousin stuggling against rahman...he wasn't too pleased at that shyt lol

hakkar was scared for his fukking life :russ:..that was a mercy stoppage if i ever saw one

rahman-tua 2 was struggle man...rahman came in weighing more than tua and both were out of shape..my guess he came in heavy on purpose to give him more of a core to take david's shots better....whats worse is rahman actually outboxed tua :smh:....rahman would have won the fight though if that KD he scored against Tua counted but it was seconds after the final bell

It does make sense and Brooklyn is only an 1.5 hours away too if you aren't scared of driving in New York (alotta ppl in Philly can't handle that aggressive driving style) but Philly deserves its own fight in its own arena. AC or BK just ain't the same. Not saying the next Mayweather fight should be here but Philly has a place in boxing history, throw us a bone already!

The funniest part about the Hakkar fight is that BHop turned down 5 mil to fight Jones then turned around and fought Hakkar for 1.5 mil :russ:

Classic Winky Wright Decision making right there. :heh:

Testify, my brother!
Philly needs some top flight boxing in a major venue (that last card BHop headlined at the Liacouras Center was no bueno)...it's not like we don't have the arena necessary to put on a big fight either. The Wells Fargo Center needs to be just as much a home to big time boxing as the old Spectrum used to be.

Good stuff from an interview with Chris Algieri:
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/11102933/chris-algieri-eyes-set-manny-pacquiao

Let's go back to that first round, in which Provodnikov knocked you down twice. What happened?
I made a mistake. It's as simple as that. It was my own fault. I traded left hooks with him too early. It was not the plan to do that in the first round.

The HBO announcing team scored the fight more in line with judge Max DeLuca, who had it 117-109 for Provodnikov. How much do you think that influenced a lot of the public's reaction to the scoring?
I think there has been kind of a fake glamorization of Ruslan's power, and everyone talks like he's this big, destructive force. So that anything he lands, people think are power punches, which isn't true. He took a lot of the power off his shots later in the fight just so he can land. So even when you look at the punch stat numbers, I outlanded him anyway. But when they say it's his power versus someone who doesn't hit as hard, a lot of Ruslan's punches were pawing his well. He threw some big shots in there, but not many were landing.

What kind of adjustments did you have to make knowing that your right eye was closing?
I was much more concerned going into the fight about Ruslan's right hand, so I was focused on moving away from that. But once my right eye was damaged, I had to start moving a lot more towards the right hand. So that kind of really changed the whole dynamic of footwork. I wasn't concerned about getting knocked out, but I was concerned about getting stopped because of the eye, so I had to change my style up a little more and move. I would have liked to have sat down and trade punches at times and throw harder combinations, but I didn't want to risk taking a jab on that eye, which could have cut it, opened it up or swelled it that much more. I was definitely worried about the ringside doctor stopping the fight.

Is there any part of you that feels there is a need for a rematch with Provodnikov?
I don't think it's necessary. I think I won the fight and it's not going to make either one of us a boatload of money. And I don't think Ruslan cares that much about the title, anyway. He won a title, now he wants to go out there and make some money now and get some big fights. I care about the title, but I want big fights. I want to fight the biggest guys in the business. I don't think I need to fight him again.

How is your eye feeling and what kind of recovery are you looking at?
It's pretty banged up. But I'm icing it and waiting for the swelling to go down. I have a follow-up with the doctor to make a better assessment of the damage once the swelling comes down. But I feel good. Every other part of my body feels great, it's just that I have one ugly eye.

Meanwhile Ruslan says:
http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/9486/provodnikov-roach-lament-loss

“To me it feels like he was running all night and just jabbing,” Provodnikov said. “You see the way I look and you see the way he looks. To me, I don’t see how you can win a fight running all night.

“I said this was not the best style for me. I start falling asleep when the guy is running all night. He’s just running and running. If I wasn’t fighting him and I started boxing you guys [the media] would be falling asleep. I did what I had to do and put the fight to him and I made it exciting. I was the only one who made it exciting.”

“This is not the first time this happened to me,” he said. “HBO gave [me the fight by a wide margin]. One of the judges gave [nine rounds] to me. And the local judges give it the other way. On top of that his eye was closed. It’s dangerous to fight like that. He could have been killed. If my eye was like that they would have stopped the fight. I think it’s not fair.

“He was getting beaten up all night. This is another opponent of mine who is probably going to go to the hospital like Tim Bradley did. They go to the hospital as champions. I don’t think I lost this fight.”

“Power punches win fights. He maybe out-jabbed us, yes, in that area, but power punches, it was a thousand-to-one,” Roach said. “That’s why I thought we deserved the fight. I have no re
grets. I thought we did enough to win the fight. The power shots were there.”

Asked if he would change anything he told Provodnikov, Roach said, “No, because we won the fight.”

As for the prospect of a rematch, Provodnikov and Roach said they would like one. Artie Pelullo, Provodnikov’s promoter, said Provodnikov has a rematch clause, but he claimed he could not recall the precise terms.

“I think in this situation it would be fair to have a rematch because, in my opinion, justice should be served,” Provodnikov said. “If he doesn’t want to fight me, luckily in this division there are so many opportunities. There are so many fighters I could fight. We’ll see what HBO will offer me. You know I’m ready to fight anybody, any time.”

Said Roach, “We’d like a rematch. Maybe in Vegas or a neutral area. I would love a rematch. That’s what I want.”

They're not putting any major boxing events in Philly when Atlantic City is right there where the white folks feel more safe

The Sports Complex is in South Philly, isolated from any real action. You'd be as safe as you would be in Atlantic City.

The Sports Complex is just 3 arenas and two big bars.

Any press would be in Center City. White people would be more than safe, unless they decide to take a field trip to the badlands and any other hood. Then that's on them.
